Pay No Mind Lyrics
Pay no mind
It takes time
What's that you say
Down the hall
I heard a song
Who knows
Drifting away
Baby at night when I look at you
Nothing in this world keeps me confused
All it takes, look in your eyes
All of me
Is to tow the waste
What's that you say
It's going away
It's painful but
You do what you must
Takes time to know
Baby at night when I look at you
Nothing in this world keeps me confused
All it takes, look in your eyes
Who knows if there're roses in heaven
Let go of that empty feeling
Not dumber just a little bit older
Kiss of love couldn't be much colder
It takes time
What's that you say
I heard a song
Who knows
Drifting away
Nothing in this world keeps me confused
All it takes, look in your eyes
Is to tow the waste
What's that you say
It's going away
You do what you must
Takes time to know
Nothing in this world keeps me confused
All it takes, look in your eyes
Let go of that empty feeling
Not dumber just a little bit older
Kiss of love couldn't be much colder

This song feels like recovery. Both a recovery from pain, and also from the callousness created in the aftermath. In a way, heartbreak sometimes feels like it will shield us from being hurt again. And sometimes we yearn for that to the point that we put up walls. But there will always be always a crack, no matter how small, for feelings to seep through again.
I tried hard to figure out what the song is about. The chorus sounds warm and loving, but the rest of the song speaks of wistfulness and desperation. I interpret it as an attempt to comfort a distracted / distressed lover. The singer hopes her lover can "pay no mind" to the things that upset him/her. She tries to use herself as an example: when "baby at night when I look at you; nothing in the world keeps me confused". In the outro, she speaks directly to her lover to "let go of the empty feeling". She also tells her loved one that his/her absent-mindedness has made she feels neglected ("kiss of love couldn't be much colder").
But there could also be another simpler and more direct interpretation: this is a break up song. Even though the singer still loves her partner, the feeling is not reciprocated, making her decide to walk out of the relationship.
Anyway, whatever the interpretation is, I love the song. Definitely a masterpiece.
