You're either Tied Down in a BAD relationship, or you're Free in a GOOD one. That is what this song is about for me! Some people just get stuck in negative relationships, and they feed off of each other's negativity, which only creates more coldness and darkness. and so, i think it also represents the dark and cold parts of the human mind and being, and i think it's very well illustrated in the chorus.
