Thrown Into the Fire Lyrics

Forgive the father
For they not know
My gospel of greed
Is all for show

I'd be thrown into the fire
If they ever learned the truth

And the congregation weeps

I'd be thrown into the fire
If they ever learned the truth

And the congregation weeps

Will you bless us
With your mysterious ways
Will you grace us
With your mysterious ways
Will you heal us
With your mysterious ways
Will you save us
With your mysterious ways

Forgive me father
Lust knows no bounds
I service my needs
On hallowed grounds

I'd be thrown into the fire
If they ever learned the truth

And the congregation weeps

I'd be thrown into the fire
If they ever learned the truth

And the congregation weeps

Will you bless us
With your mysterious ways
Will you grace us
With your mysterious ways
Will you heal us
With your mysterious ways
Will you save us
With your mysterious ways

Will you bless us
With your mysterious ways
Will you grace us
With your mysterious ways
Will you heal us
With your mysterious ways
Will you save us
With your mysterious ways

Cover art for Thrown Into the Fire lyrics by Trivium

It's a song about religious leaders who are wolves in sheep's clothing. The first part is about how televangelists and mega church leaders like to gather up money in the name of God but it's just fake and they're trying to get rich. Then of course there's a verse about priests who molested kids. In each case the perpetrator would be thrown in the fire if only people knew what they had done. This could double as a metaphor for getting thrown into Hell for what they've done too.

The chorus "Will you..." seems to be suggesting that a God that allows this to happen is mysterious. That is, why would you allow this?

@collin800 Thought I'd pop by and confirm the meaning of the lyrics. Yeah. "Your mysterious ways" is the age-old referenced verse when people ask "Why does God allow bad things to happen?".

I've learned that people often ask questions they clearly do not want answers to. It's important to consider the intent of the questioner. Trivium isn't asking with sincerity. Rather, with anger and resentment. They do not really wish to be blessed, graces, healed, or saved. They are mocking "God".

A delightful Irony. I'd like to ask Trivium who exactly are they singing...

  • That if God existed, He wouldn't allow these things. Therefore He doesn't exist. Therefore I don't know what all the anger and shouting is about. "Hey, you God that don't exist. C'mere! I'll punch you for the bad you've done!"

  • God does exist, but they are putting themselves on higher moral ground. Let's pretend they are talking about the God of the Bible. Don't want to idolize and create another God that doesn't exist. here's how that conversation goes: "Hey God. Creator of all, infinite in Wisdom and Power. Bringer of ultimate justice. We acknowledge that you exist and if The Bible says all these things about you then it all must be true but, yeah we think you're doing it all wrong."

Putting my money on 1 though.
