first interpretation: ok so, in short i beileve that the song is about being in love with someone that hurts you or is bad for you. like when he says 'i never wanna lose the bruises that you left behind' , i think hes trying to say that even to you hurt me, i never wanna lose the way you "messed" me up or rather showed me love.

2nd interpretation: so. in short i believe that he and this girl are very "damaged". meaning that they have both had some bad times and exsperiences, but they give eachother their pain , and giving themselves a sense of relief knowing that they can help eachother. in this case when he says 'i hope i never lose the bruises that you left behind' bruises could mean her damage, and that he never wants to lose what she trusted him with or such. he still loves her. she dosent. simple. again, im no exspert.
