I think that the song is about girl who left narrator because he cheated on her, and now he's suffering, knowing he is the one to blame.

"Tempted, you know Apologies are never gonna fix this"

I think in this words he's admitting he fault about being tempted by another person.

this song could ultimately be written about a woman or a man.

"but i don't ever want to see you with him." this could be the narrator singing to the female who has taken the narrators lover.
