Meet Me In The Hallway Lyrics

2, 3, 4

Meet me in the hallway,
Meet me in the hallway,
I just left your bedroom
Give me some morphine
Is there any more to do?

Just let me know, I'll be at the door, at the door
Hoping you'll come around
Just let me know, I'll be on the floor, on the floor
Maybe we'll work it out
I gotta get better, gotta get better
I gotta get better, gotta get better
I gotta get better, gotta get better
And maybe we'll work it out

I walked the streets all day
Running with the thieves
'Cause he left me in the hallway
(Give me some more)
Just take the pain away

Just let me know I'll be at the door, at the door
Hoping you'll come around
Just let me know, I'll be on the floor, on the floor
Maybe we'll work it out
I gotta get better, gotta get better
I gotta get better, gotta get better
I gotta get better, gotta get better
And maybe we'll work it out

We don't talk about it
It's something we don't do
'Cause once you go without it
Nothing else will do

My Opinion

@madi116393 i really like this interpretation, it makes the song even more emotional if thats possible

ENG Throughout the song it feels like Harry is singing in front of the person who leaves him in some way or another waiting for something, some change, some sign. The lyrics in my opinion are quite emotional as Harry sings about meeting someone in a hallway in such a sad way that one can more or less feel the pain listening to the lyrics. In the chorus I can understand that this person singing is going to be there for the other even if all they manage to do is hurt each other, it is repeated several times that they have to get better and maybe then they can manage to make their relationship work. In the second verse he seems to be responding to the end of the first verse where he asks for morphine so he can get rid of the pain he is suffering for that person. This song to me feels like a one-sided argument in lyric rather than prose (it could also be a complaint or even a fight). There is a pause before the outro where you hear a deep sigh that sits quite nicely with the lyrics that follow. At the end it is understood that in this relationship there is no talk about the problems, no communication. I have two ideas of what Harry may be communicating in the last two lines of the song: 1) After you haven't talked things out in a relationship for a long time, nothing else can fix the mess that's going on between the two parties. 2) After you walk away from someone you felt so strongly about, nothing and no one else can take that place. In this song it seems that the singer is in a terrible emotional dependency that doesn't seem to get better, so much is the dependency that metaphorically waits eternally in a hallway for the return of that important person. In general, I think it is an excellent song to open the album, as it brings together the general feeling of the album quite well.
