Something Just Like This Lyrics
It's about how you don't have to be perfect or a superhero to be someone's love and comfort.
So he's been analysing everything he can, to try and find an answer. An answer to what he wants. A formula to love.
All of these stories are about heroes. They've got something that makes them different.
That's why he admires them. But he's got unrealistic expectations about himself.
He's not different; he's got nothing in comparison to these heroes. No gold, no gifts, control, or fists.
They're heroes that he admires, and he knows he doesn't have these traits which he deems to be heroic.
He thinks he doesn't deserve to be a hero.
He doesn't deserve to get what he wants. He doesn't have anything to offer.
He can't be someone's hero.
Yet her expectations of a hero are different.
She wants to understand him, wants to know where he wants to go with his life. She thinks she wants to go on that same journey with him.
And her expectations fit what he can give her. Someone she can turn to. Who gets her. Someone she can kiss.
Someone who would feel like a hero if he was with her.
She wants something just like this. Something like what he can offer.
She's almost afraid to admit it, because she's worried he doesn't want it. She's not sure if he will feel like the hero he wants to be if he's with her.
At the end of the song, it's him saying that he wants something just like this. Someone to want what he can offer. He wants to be someone's hero.
They want each other. They could work.
The beauty to the song is this: are they in a position to get what they want?
Or will they be too afraid about getting what they want that they are forever hoping. For something just like this.
Incredible.
