Q&A
From the Curve Lyrics
Is this what you expected?
Flat and empty, how I feel?
The brain is emptied out and clean
Clean is not a state that's real
So take what you are given
Just forget what you deserve
People think you're out there living
But you fell from the curve
Give me a name
Right now I'm just a cycle
Waiting to end
Right now I feel recycled
And I'm ready to leave again
Some tree in bloom like crazy hair
So many feathers flying
I want to stay, I don't, I'm lying
Getting used to it's what I fear
So much to answer for
We have so much to answer for
So sick of talking about it
Falling asleep on the floor
Give me a name
Right now I'm just a cycle
Waiting to end
Right now I feel recycled
And I'm ready to leave again
And I'm ready to leave again
And I'm ready to leave again
And I'm ready to leave again
Flat and empty, how I feel?
The brain is emptied out and clean
Clean is not a state that's real
Just forget what you deserve
People think you're out there living
But you fell from the curve
Right now I'm just a cycle
Waiting to end
Right now I feel recycled
And I'm ready to leave again
So many feathers flying
I want to stay, I don't, I'm lying
Getting used to it's what I fear
We have so much to answer for
So sick of talking about it
Falling asleep on the floor
Right now I'm just a cycle
Waiting to end
Right now I feel recycled
And I'm ready to leave again
And I'm ready to leave again
And I'm ready to leave again

For the better part of 28 years I've puzzled over the line about "some man in feathers flying". Today it suddenly clicked that it was always "so many feathers flying" and I don't know whether to bake myself a cake or pack my bags and move to Patagonia.
Still, I absolutely adore this song. First time I heard it on a friend's compilation tape made me prick up my ears and hunt down 'On The Mouth' post-haste. It became my constant driving companion and the soundtrack to my early twenties. Beautiful, raucous, inspiring and self-effacing. And Superchunk have never let me down ever since.
