This is just teenage love. There is this couple that doesn't talk much but definitely likes each other, even if they are in a relationship. The other person is coming to terms with themselves in a certain way that somehow might affect the relationship. The speaker of the song doesn't really care because it doesn't really matter.
@Italia8989 think you're exactly right on this. My first thought nearly to a t. I would add that is a way of saying, relationships can only be defined by the people in them. Changes, quirks, and so on are all fine if the couple decides it works for them. It's an argument about expectation in relationships from the inside out.

I thought the third part was just an extra. But now i believe is the most important part. The song is about idealization. The love was only in his head. But we see whar we what, they say. Its just my perception.
