In my opinion (might be way wrong) I feel like this a song of a guy who's has his heart broken and doesn't believe there can be someone for him. And when that someone comes along, he can't believe it... Yet, he doesn't wanna lose. So he he tests the person ("But I Might Use It") to see if it's a facade or not.
