Clockworks Lyrics
Dismantling the clockwork that makes me the cynic
Pallet, wheel and click
The properties of mg indifference
Reverse-engineering what makes it tick
Dissecting the finetuned mechanism
Rack and barrel, spring and pin
Its synchronous characteristics
To kill what makes it spin
Disassemble this machinery
Re-program these eyes, undo this design
Labelled and filed, each part indexed
Broken to pieces then thoroughly burned
Deconstruction of what I am
Buried to make sure he never returns
Taken apart, defused, blueprints turned to ashes
Eradicate the last remains, remnants of the insane
Disintegration, the destruction of me now imperative
To purge myself of this condition, complete this dissolution a necessity
Break this deceitful machine
A lie, what once I was, obsolete instrument
An outmoded contraption, a malfunctioning device
That callous self now extinguished, that malignant self now disused
That conceited invention to nothing now reduced
Complete disintegration, the destruction of me now imperative
To purge myself of this condition, complete this dissolution a necessity
Break this deceitful machine
Pallet, wheel and click
The properties of mg indifference
Reverse-engineering what makes it tick
Dissecting the finetuned mechanism
Rack and barrel, spring and pin
Its synchronous characteristics
To kill what makes it spin
Re-program these eyes, undo this design
Broken to pieces then thoroughly burned
Deconstruction of what I am
Buried to make sure he never returns
Taken apart, defused, blueprints turned to ashes
Eradicate the last remains, remnants of the insane
To purge myself of this condition, complete this dissolution a necessity
An outmoded contraption, a malfunctioning device
That conceited invention to nothing now reduced
To purge myself of this condition, complete this dissolution a necessity

<Break this deceitful machine> If Seneca comes alive today I'm sure he would appreciate the song 'Clockworks' by Messhugah. Because the song is about healing the disturbed mind by eliminating emotional disturbance and developing your reason. In words of Seneca: "So where is it people go wrong, since everyone choose a happy life? Because they mistake the means of happiness for the end, and actually flee it while they are seeking it. For although a firm freedom from care and unshaken confidence is the essence of a happy life, they gather reasons for anxiety, and not only carry burdens on the treacherous journey of life but drag them along; so they are always falling further behind from what they are aiming for, and the more effort they spend, the more they hamper themselves and are carried backwards. This happens to men hurrying through a maze; their very speed entangles them."
“It’s one of the songs on the album that isn’t about current events, although it kind of ties in with a lot of that stuff. Tricky one to play, not just for the drums but the guitars as well. It’s one of the most challenging things we’ve written in some time. Lyrically it’s about looking into yourself, as if your mind was a clock of sorts, and you want to change the way you think and act and react to the things going on around you. So it’s seen as a piece of a clock that you take out in your mind, disassemble all the little cogs and wheels in your mind, and put them back together to make sense of yourself.”
