Pork Soda Lyrics

Somewhere in South End when you were fun
You took my hand and you made me run
Up past the prison to the seafront
You climbed the cliff edge and took the plunge

Why can’t we laugh now like we did then?
How come I see you and ache instead?
How come you only look pleased in bed?
Let's climb the cliff edge and jump again

Pineapples are in my head
(Pineapples are in my head)
Got nobody 'cos I’m brain dead
(Got nobody 'cos I’m brain dead)

Somebody said that I'm a fuckin' slum
Don’t know that I belong
Maybe you’re fucking dumb
Maybe I’m just a bum
Maybe you’re fucking scum
Don’t you go psycho chum
I want you for the world
I want you all the time

Pineapples are in my head
(when you were fun)
Got nobody 'cos I’m brain dead
(you made me run)
Pineapples are in my head
(to the seafront)
Got nobody 'cos I’m brain dead
(she took the plunge)

5000 footsteps in your wet dress
Back to the house with your arms around my neck
We drank pork soda with tangled legs
I won’t forget how you looked at me then

I know I'm no sweet prince of love
Those times when we got drunk
Maybe Jamaica rum
Maybe some Jonnie Dub
Maybe you still think of us
Phone buzz, and still I jump
Why don't I say it then?
I want you all the time

Why can’t we laugh now like we did then?
How come I see you and ache instead?
How come you only look pleased in bed?
Let's climb the cliff edge and jump again

Pineapples are in my head
(Pineapples are in my head)
Got nobody 'cos I’m brain dead
(Got nobody 'cos I’m brain dead)
Pineapples are in my head
(Pineapples are in my head)
Got nobody 'cos I’m brain dead
(Got nobody 'cos I’m brain dead)

I understand that Glass Animals aren't really suppose to make sense or have a meaning. However I have my own interpretation of this song as well. This one is about limbo. Well my interpretation of limbo. (I'm not sure if that is the exact word I am looking for, but for now I will use it.) Limbo is a place where someone (in this case the narrator and lover/friend/ex-lover (?)) loop their own death over and over again for eternity. The Narrator seems to be the only one in the loop however, even though he is experiencing the same events that took place on the day he died.

From what I understand, the lover committed suicide (via jumping off a cliff) and was probably proposing for the Narrator to jump as well (a double suicide.) But well the Narrator just watched in shock as the lover jumped and was too late to stop them. He regrets his decision and is wrecked with grief and proposes the line <Let's climb the cliff edge and jump again>, wanting to change his decision and plummets to his death.

Well his death was a bit more brutal. The impact didnt kill him immediately and he suffered for a while before finally dying.

Then he repeats that day, with a ghost of his lover.

(I'm going off the non Radio Edit version)

I believe the song is about a relationship slowly diminishing to nothing but just sex and lust. The song is in the perspective of the man in the relationship remembering how much love he truly felt for his girl. Over the years the girls love began to fade (I feel the girl is a wild type, always wanting a new thrill, while the guy is more laid back and easy) they slowly started drifting away from each other, only really wanting each other when they wanted to pleasure themselves. But the guy didn't want things to end the way they did, he never built up the courage to tell the girl how much he really loved and adored her. They didn't last long, like most young couples. (A lot of this also comes from watching the music video)

My Interpretation

My interpretation of this is:

this song is about ex lovers. The narrator tells us about their relationship and how much they miss their partner.

Somewhere in South End when you were fun You took my hand and you made me run Up past the prison to the seafront You climbed the cliff edge and took the plunge

the place they met probably? Or fell in love.

Why can’t we laugh now like we did then? How come I see you and ache instead?

The narrator complains about his relations with the ex lover. He sees the person as an "ache" because they miss them and want them back, and it pains them that they're not together anymore or perhaps it pains them top see their ex with other people, and when they talk it doesn't seem "natural" or just isn't like before.

Let's climb the cliff edge and jump again

The narrator wants to try again.Maybe they broke up with their partner and now regret it and they're trying to get them back.

Pineapples are in my head (Pineapples are in my head) Got nobody 'cause I’m brain dead (Got nobody 'cause I’m brain dead)

They regret that they broke up with their partner, and complain about being "brain dead" because of doing so.

I know I'm no genius of love Don't know that I belong Maybe I'm deaf and dumb Maybe I'm just a bum Maybe I never love Don't you go psycho 'cause I want you for the world I want you all the time Stop

They're thinking about their decision, and thinking about hopw much they want their partner back. The "Stop" is them trying to stop themselves from thinking about it and move on, but they can't.

Five thousand footsteps in your wet dress Back to the house with your arms 'round my neck We drank pork soda with tangled legs I won’t forget how you looked at me then

They're thinking about the time they were together. All the great moments. How could they throw all this away?

I know I’m no sweet prince of love Those times that we got drunk Maybe Jamaica rum Maybe some Jonnie Dub Maybe you still think of us Phone buzz, and still I jump Why don’t I say it then? I want you all the time

They say that they're not the greatest in relationship. They (again) start remembering all the great times that they and their partner had together. Then their phone buzzez and they jump , in hope that it's their ex. They realize that they can't move on.

Why can’t we laugh now like we did then? How come I see you and ache instead? How come you only look pleased in bed? Let's climb the cliff edge and jump again

Again, they want to get back with their ex, start again.

Pineapples are in my head (Pineapples are in my head) Got nobody 'cause I’m brain-dead (Got nobody 'cause I’m brain-dead) Pineapples are in my head (Pineapples are in my head) Got nobody 'cause I’m brain-dead (Got nobody 'cause I’m brain-dead) Pineapples are in my head (Pineapples are in my head) Got nobody 'cause I’m brain-dead (Got nobody 'cause I’m brain-dead)

They want to get back with their partner so badly. They drown inm their own regret. They realize that breaking up wasn't the right thing to do and they miss the person very much, but there's nothing they can do to get them back.
