Don't say "start over" doesn't mean a thing.
When you face death tell me

If you were just body then it's true you are no more.
But if there's soul beneath that casing, only now you're being born.
I hoisted your dead weight over my frail but tireless back.
I took you to the edge of where I planned to grow a forest.
I closed your eyes and dug a hole and made my peace,
with the fact that this would be your final earthly placement.
And as I watched your fur and muscle disappear,
it's then that understanding and acceptance replaced my fear.
And I didn't know what to say,
but I knew what I had to do.
Every day I made my way back to that tragic spot,
I'd watch birds and insects traverse your burial plot.
One day upon arriving, I found a tiny sprout,
he reached up from the ground as if to say 'please just let me out!'
And I didn't know what to say,
but I knew what I had to do.
I watched you coming back to me.

And as time passed I'd come and watch you grow into a tree,
watch you and other flourish where good friends once used to be.
I'd sit under your shade and think about your life before.
Thirteen years spent by my side now I sit by you once more.
