The Hunter Lyrics
Woke up this morning like I always do
I still like to think that I'm new
Time just gets its way
Strawberries left to decay
Can't find my pants or my bank account
Don't you slip away
Voices that start to betray
Even though you raised me I will never be your father
King of each and every Sunset Marquis
Even though you're crazy you will never be a bother
You're my Old Man In the Sea
I still like to laugh when I make a joke
I still like to think that there's hope
Time just has its say
Strawberries left to decay
Struck by the sight of an empty hall
Don't you fade away
Voices that start to betray
Even though you raised me I will never be your father
King of each and every Sunset Marquis
Even though you're crazy you will never be a bother
You're my Old Man In the Sea
The hunter gets hunted
We all get confronted
Don't just slip away
Voices that start to betray
Even though you raised me I will never be your father
King of each and every Sunset Marquis
Even though you're crazy you will never be a bother
You're my Old Man In the Sea
I still like to think that I'm new
Time just gets its way
Strawberries left to decay
Don't you slip away
Voices that start to betray
King of each and every Sunset Marquis
Even though you're crazy you will never be a bother
You're my Old Man In the Sea
I still like to think that there's hope
Time just has its say
Strawberries left to decay
Don't you fade away
Voices that start to betray
King of each and every Sunset Marquis
Even though you're crazy you will never be a bother
You're my Old Man In the Sea
We all get confronted
Don't just slip away
Voices that start to betray
King of each and every Sunset Marquis
Even though you're crazy you will never be a bother
You're my Old Man In the Sea

Time is a bitch but coming to terms with no one, including yourself ever defeating it, maybe all that bad luck stops. Or maybe I’m correlating Hemingway and this song a bit too much.
RHCP meets Chris Isaak
I love it how RHCP like to end an album with a slow and peculiar melody: just remember "Road Trippin" and "Death of a Martian". I like this one too, it reminds me of the wonderful "Lemons Never Forget" by Bee Gees.
Lyrically, I agree that it is about getting old, perhaps with some references to Anthony's father. Using strawberries as a metaphor for aging humans was also done in another beautiful song, "Fresh Strawberries" by Franz Ferdinand.
P.S. In case you don't know (I didn't), Sunset Marquis is a luxurious hotel in L.A.
