This song is powerful in more than the intensity buildup as it goes on. The lyrics are very relatable across many experiences, so it could be interpreted in numerous ways that could be logically argued.
My take on the lyrics are that he is singing about someone he sees as a beautiful soul, but is worried that her purity will be taken for granted. It sounds to me as though she is in a relationship with someone now and he’s pleading for her to reconsider things. “Choose your words before you speak.. can’t you see that all you got is time” could suggest she is either going to enter into a serious relationship (possibly was proposed to) with someone who doesn’t appreciate, will not nourish, or will destroy the amazing soul she has to offer. It also could be someone he is involved with or wants to be with him, but doesn’t feel as though he is who she should love or he will not be able to give back what she wants to give him. It’s “heavier” on him to know she’s so pure yet is with/trying to be with him. However he means it, he sees this person as a truly special soul and doesn’t want that to be spoiled. Be it not being with him, having lost her and wishing he hadn’t, or just giving her some advice to protect who she is, he wants her to stay just as she is inside and not let the world or someone corrupt that.
