Stone Lyrics

We’ve got DJs posing as God
And journalists posing as King
I thought I was just singing songs,
But, man, was I wrong
I’m a hooker and I’m down on my knees

They dangle fame up above us
And we’ll kill for just a taste
But the one thing I know
That I’ll seal yet in stone is
What you have to say

You thought in order to be a genius
You had to live on the edge of death
Oh, ‘cause it ain’t Rock ’n Roll
To be in control
But your image is your best song yet

You can be with the wildest women
And put drugs all through your veins
But the one thing I know
That I’ll seal yet in stone is
What you have to say

I get phone calls from fellow musicians
They’re all wanting to pick my brain
Should I do this or do that?
Which trick from what hat?
And they get sad
When I tell them to just play

‘Cause you could hire a great promotion
And get your management team in place
But the one thing I know
That I’ll seal yet in stone is
What you have to say

We’ve got more bands
Than we know what to do with
But we still can’t seem to find truth
Every guitarist thinks he’s an artist
When we hand out medals for carrying a tune

Oh, you can wear your old-fashioned clothes
And shout ‘oh’ and ‘hey’
But the one thing I know
That I’ll seal yet in stone is
What you have to say

Yeah, the one thing I know
That I’ll seal yet in stone is
What you have to
What do you have to
What do you have to say

Cover art for Stone lyrics by David Ramirez

People were saying that the "'oh' and 'hey'" line is a reference to The Lumineers song 'Ho Hey'. Maybe it is, but I studied his live performance of the song and I'm pretty sure that the lyrics are supposed to say 'oh', not 'ho'. It might be a broader reference. Let me know if anyone finds proof otherwise.
