Pigeon Lady Lyrics

I don't know if you remember me
You must already be in your 30s
I wonder if you still think of me
Some things you just have to choose to believe
And I hope
That you know I don't feel alone
I don't
Nothing's changed after that Christmas Eve
20 years spent with my feather family
I was too old to change anything
I hope you are not disappointed in me
And I hope that you know
I don't feel alone
I don't
This park is my only home
Nowhere else to go
Bodies growing cold
Turtle doves still in my clothes
So many years ago
I don't feel alone
Tonight
There will be no funeral for me
Pigeons are not good at that kind of thing
Maybe you're the one who will find me
Some things you just have to choose to believe
And I know
That you know
I don't feel alone
I don't
This park is my only home
Nowhere else to go
Bodies growing cold
Turtle doves still in my clothes
I'm ready to go
I don't feel alone
Tonight

This song is a reference to Pigeon Lady, a character in the movie Home Alone 2. (Spoilers) Throughout the movie, Kevin learns that Pigeon Lady once had a family and a lover, but her lover abandoned her and she lost trust in humanity. She eventually became homeless, living in central park and preferring the company of pigeons to people. She felt that people tend to ignore her and wish she weren't there, just like they do with pigeons. At the end of the movie, Kevin promises to never forget Pigeon Lady, and to affirm this promise, he gifts her one of his two turtle doves. This song takes place many years after the end of the movie. It's narrated by Pigeon Lady and shows her internal dialogue as she nears the end of her life, wondering if Kevin has kept his promise not to forget her after all these years.
