Roxanne (The Police cover) Lyrics

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Those days are over
You don't have to sell your body to the night

Roxanne
You don't have to wear that dress tonight
Walk the streets for money
You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light

Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)

I loved you since I knew you
I wouldn't talk down to you
I have to tell you just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy

I know my mind is made up
So put away your makeup
Told you once, I won't tell you again
It's a bad way

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light

Roxanne (You don't have to put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)...

Cover art for Roxanne (The Police cover) lyrics by Lacey Sturm

Originally the song is about a man\'s love for a prostitute. Here this meaning is altered by the added verses which indicate that it\'s actually about God\'s love for a woman, whose heart is broken and devastated and who sells her body. That love is unconditional, incessant and unbreakable.\n\nIncredible rendition of the song. While the original is light and somewhat funky in style, Lacey\'s version is much heavier, darker and yet inexplicably tender, affectionate even. The screaming carries so much emotion, it\'s like a wake-up call of "Come on, girl! I\'m here to change your life and deliver you from this darkness, just hear me!".
