In the Hours of Not Quite Rain Lyrics
In the hour of not quite rain
when the fog was fingertip high
The moon hung suspended
in a singular sky
Deeply and beyond seeing
not wishing to intrude
Bathed in its own reflection
the water mirrored the moon
The tumbling birds have now sobered
from the leaves of their nursery
Like shadowy, quiet children
watching sleepily
when the fog was fingertip high
The moon hung suspended
in a singular sky
not wishing to intrude
Bathed in its own reflection
the water mirrored the moon
from the leaves of their nursery
Like shadowy, quiet children
watching sleepily

I think the point of this song is simple enough: to create the "hung suspended" atmosphere of not quite rain. I don't think the lyrics are meant to congeal in a rational way -- this strikes me as a "tone poem". It's possible that the emphasis on moon and its reflection in the water suggest inward-looking and meditation -- certainly the song is observant and still. A song I love more and more as the years go by.
