I've Got My Gun

Desean was the best ball player in the town
Kathryn had blue eyes and cheered at all the games
They often found a way to get along at night
She came from money and he had the time
Her Pa stood in the doorway with his .45
Desean he came along a-looking for the girl
She ran outside and the neighbors heard her scream
Red blood like anyone there pooling on the ground
He said “I told I don’t wanna see you up here anymore”
“Yeah, but I love her. Don’t care what you’re for”
“Well that’s a shame, boy, and now you better run
You’ve got your love, son, but I’ve got my gun”
Police came in no time and her Pa didn’t budge
Kathryn just fell apart and laid down in the mud
Desean let one final breath into the purple air
Neighbors just hung around to watch him disappear
He said “I told I don’t wanna see you up here anymore”
“Yeah, but I love her. Don’t care what you’re for”
“Well that’s a shame, boy, and now you better run

The judge peered out from behind a mighty desk
Kathryn had testified; a jury did the rest
She walked outside and I think I saw her cry
He went back to a cell and that’s where he will die
The judge said “you’ve done it bad and now you gotta pay”
He said “But I love her, that boy wasn’t right”
“Well that’s a shame, Jack, ‘cause now you’ve lost it all
