LA Devotee Lyrics

You got two black eyes
From loving too hard
And a black car
That matches your blackest soul

I wouldnt change you
Whoa-Oh
Wouldnt try to make you leave
No-Oh

Oh the Neon Coast was your sign
And the midwest wind with Pisces rising
wouldnt change you
Whoa-Oh
Wouldnt try to make you leave
No-Oh

Static palms
Melt your vibe
Midnight whisperings

The Black Magic of Mulholland Drive
Swimming pools under desert skies
Drinking white wine in the blushing lights
Just another LA Devotee
Sunsets on the evil eye
Invisible to the Hollywood shrine
Always on the hunt
For a little more time
Just another LA Devotee

Just another
Just another, oh oh
Just another
Just another, oh oh
Just another
Just another, oh oh
Just another LA Devotee

You got bleaches out eyes
From the valley sands
And the black tar palm
Keeps weepin' your name

I couldn't change ya
Whoa-oh
Couldnt even make you see
No-oh

The high rise life reads your rights
And the downtown storm with Aries rising
Wouldnt change ya
Whoa-oh
Wouldnt ever try to make you leave
No-oh

Static palms
Melt your vibe
Midnight whisperings

The Black Magic of Mulholland Drive
Swimming pools under desert skies
Drinking white wine in the blushing lights
Just another LA Devotee
Sunsets on the evil eye
Invisible to the Hollywood shrine
Always on the hunt
For a little more time
Just another LA Devotee

Just another
Just another, oh oh
Just another
Just another, oh oh
Just another
Just another, oh oh
Just another LA Devotee

LA Devotee
LA Devotee
LA Devotee
LA Devotee

The Black Magic of Mulholland Drive
Swimming pools under desert skies
Drinking white wine in the blushing lights
Just another LA Devotee
Sunsets on the evil eye
Invisible to the Hollywood shrine
Always on the hunt
For a little more time
Just another LA Devotee

it is something that has to do with Hollywood and LA in not getting a satanic vibe I'm getting something else like exposer of Hollywood the Hollywood life this song is about the Hollywood life

My thoughts on this song is the ideaology that LA and Hollywood is becoming to secular or worldly and to overly worldly I'm not saying they need hesus or anything. I'm just saying that considering the references to black magic and horoscopes. Along with black eyes and I see it as Urie believing that Hollywood is going overboard with gossip and secular superstition

My Interpretation

I am not very good at song interpretations but I'll do what I can.

"You got two black eyes from loving too hard" Ryan Ross wore "black eye" makeup on both his eyes the day after Brendon Urie got a black eye after a bottling incident.

"Wouldn't change ya, oh, wouldn't ever try to make you leave, no" I think this is Brendon saying he wouldn't try to make Ryan Ross and Jon Walker leave the band

"And the Midwest wind with Pisces rising" I think this is about Sarah Urie (Brendon's wife,) who is from the Midwest, and is a Pisces

I think the chorus is just about Los Angeles itself, which I think is a metaphor* for something else.

"And a downtown storm with Aries rising" This likely is referring to Brendon. Possibly him starting an argument, maybe the Midwest wind caused the downtown storm?

I think the "LA Devotee" could be a person, possibly a younger Brendon Urie, who doesn't have their priorities straight, they are devoted to something that doesn't actually really matter.

*I think that in this song Los Angeles is a metaphor for something unimportant that has been prioritized, causing problems with the things that are actually important.

Translation

I would also like to add that Ryan Ross seems to be "in love" with LA, seeing how often he wears his "I ❤ LA" shirt.

I feel like this song could mean someone who is obsessed with fame, since a devotee is someone who is heavily enthusiastic about something, LA devotee could be showing how ridiculous people get when it comes to fame and fortune.
