He hates California because it is keeping him away from the one that he loves. He is here and she is there. He wants to be with her, but has to focus on his career in a state that he doesn't belong to and doesn't want to be in. He is stuck in hotel rooms while trying to make his music. They are blind and stumble in the dark because they have never done long-distance before and it is hard and scary and they don't know what they are doing. They hate California because it is keeping them apart.
