Have You In My Wilderness Lyrics

Shake me awake!
Am I the man you see
Through your mystery eyes?
Oh yea, I second that emotion

You'll see lightning cascading
Pronouncements of our love

Lady of gold, you would fit beautiful in my wilderness
Oh, in your waters I've dropped anchor

You'll see lightning cascading
Pronouncements of our love
Of our love
Our love
Our love

Tell me, why do I feel you running away? (x4)

Cover art for Have You In My Wilderness lyrics by Julia Holter

Such a surreal, simple yet enigmatic song. Julia's voice captures the man's longing...

I also wonder whether his "Lady of gold" is a metaphor- is she a real woman, or the man's idealisation of one that he can never possess? The fact that he says that she would "fit beautiful in (his) wilderness" make me think that he is not interested in the Lady as a tangible person, but rather in what she represents for him aesthetically/idealistically. If she is real (and not simply a creature of his own mind), I could understand why she would be running away.
