Silk Lyrics

Your broad shoulders, my wet tears
You're alive and I'm still here
Some half human creature thing
Can you bring life to anything (ooh)

(Take this to make you better, but eventually die)

If you don't love me, don't tell me
I've never asked who and I'll never ask why (It's such a shame, she used to be so lovely)

Who's fault is that, if it wasn't mum and dad's
(Well it must be yours)
We'll have none of that (ooh)

Just looking for a protector
God never reached out in time
There's love, there is a savior
But that ain't no love of mine

My Love it kills me slowly
Slowly I could die
And when she sleeps she hears the blues
Sees shades of black and white

Gotta stay cool you hot, hot head
Count to a thousand before you sleep in bed
Read the news, pass the time
Drink the juice, feeling fine

Gotta stay cool you hot, hot head
Count to a thousand before you sleep in bed
Read the news, pass the time
Drink the juice, feeling fine

(At least you're not boring)

No one ever wants to feel this sad (ooh)

Just looking for a protector
God never reached out in time
There's love, there is a saviour
But that ain't no love of mine

My love it kills me slowly
Slowly I could die
And when she sleeps she hears the blues
Sees shades of black and white

Just looking for a protector
God never reached out in time
There's love, there is a savior
But that ain't no love of mine

My love it kills me slowly
Slowly I could die
And when she sleeps she hears the blues
Sees shades of black and white

I feel like this song is about depression and/or anxiety and paranoia. If have anxiety a big part of it is questioning a lot of things you do, even your own thoughts. Which is displayed by the lyrics in parenthesis. Also when you're depressed every day feels like a television show re-run you've seen 500 times.

"Count to a thousand before you sleep in bed Read the news, pass the time Drink the juice, feeling fine"

My Interpretation

@elem45 Yeah I think the same, even the way she delivers Who's fault is that, if it wasn't mom and dad (Well it must be yours) in a whisper suggests that voice that constantly assumes the worst and places the blame on the innocent who is self-loathing due to mental illness.

It is even quite angsty and existential near the end, looking for a form of salvation and protection from herself whatever it may be, to stop the monotony (as you explained) and pain she currently is experiencing.

One of their most poignant songs.

Seems like someone recovering from drug addiction.

"it's such a shame, she used to be so lovely" I feel it's about a girl suffering from depression. She places the blame for her actions outside herself (i'll have none of that), and keeps looking for love and protection outside herself. She speaks of love as a saviour, except none of hers, so she keeps making bad choices and blaming them on others. It also speaks to us about how the media, our friends, etc, tell us to just suck it up and "stay cool", "drink the juice", and how no one wants to deal with someone else's problems and don't understand those dealing with depression "AT LEAST YOURE NOT BORING", "nobody wants to feel you this sad", as if depression is a problem for others rather than for the one dealing with it. She also places responsibility on other people's love, as if love should be responsible for healing one's psicological problems... I could go on all night.

@Ourena I think you're spot on here.

I think this song is about addiction, because in my point of view, we can say addiction = love. When you are in love with a person, you are addicted to him/her. But you don’t have to be in love with a person, you can be in love with some habit, some place, feeling. You can be in love with drugs and alcohol. If I compare this song and this theory with my life, it makes totally sense. I used to suffer from eating disorders, I loved my illness and I was addicted to it. It was MY LOVE and it was killing me slowly, such as drugs and alcohol do with people. Anyway, I heard this song in Trainspoting 2 for the first time. And trainspotting is a movie about drug addicts, so yeah, the song must be about an addiction. Its only up to you, what an addiction means.

This song could be from the perspective of an unborn baby

@Turin56 When I first saw your comment, I was like, "What?!" But it makes real sense. Fantastic view point and comment.

I definitely feel like she is looking for help, and is desperate for someone and someone's love to save her. I feel so sorry for her, but I feel her story has put her in this position, and only she can get herself out of it, but sadly, she just can't see it.
