This story is about a guy who really likes a girl, but not sure how to convey to her about his feelings.
He walks her home, knowing that she will leave soon. He felt nervous and tried to find words to tell her how he feels. He wonders if she will ever come back again. "I heard that you're moving away... Fumbled in my pockets for a final word.
The girl tells him about her plans in life, and he told her he could imagine her fulfilling her goals, yet he secretly ONLY saw her and him together. "Walked me through all of your plans. I told you I could see it all, but all I saw was you through the space in your fingers."
He doesn't want to hold her back, but only wishing he could know her better.
She tells him all the people she knew died from a "silent cause.. quiet desperation." As he continued to walk her back, he too felt the same way as the others did. This silent desperation depicted his sadness for her leaving, but he cannot seem to convey his thoughts through words. He doesn't want to hold her back, but wished he could know her more and that she could stay.

The chorus "I don't want to love you. I want to learn you. But I'd love to know you well." It seems confusing at first why he uses "But", since "learn you" and "know you well" are the same thing. It turns out "learn" here means "teach", so:
