The Blackest Day Lyrics

Give me all, got my blue nail polish on
It's my favorite color and my favorite tone of song
I don't really wanna break up, we got it going on
It's what you gathered from my talk, but you were wrong
It's not easy for me to talk about
A have heavy heartstrings
And not simple, it's trigonometry
It's hard to express
I can't explain

Ever since my baby went away
It's been the blackest day, it's been the blackest day
All I hear is Billie Holiday
It's all that I play
It's all that I play

Because I'm going deeper and deeper
Harder and harder
Getting darker and darker
Looking for love
In all the wrong places
Oh my god
In all the wrong places
Oh my god

Carry me home, got my new car and my gun
Wind in my hair, holding your hand, listen to a song
Carry me home, don't wanna talk about the things to come
Just put your hands up in the air, the radio on
'Cause there's nothing for us to talk about
Like the future and those things
'Cause there's nothing for me to think about
Now that he's gone, I can't feel nothing

Ever since my baby went away
It's been the blackest day, it's been the blackest day
All I hear is Billie Holiday
It's all that I play
It's all that I play

Because I'm going deeper and deeper
Harder and harder
Getting darker and darker
Looking for love
In all the wrong places
Oh my god
In all the wrong places
Oh my god

You should've known better
Than to have to let her
Get you under her spell of the weather
I got you where I want you
You did it, I never
I'm falling for forever
I'm dying again since
I got you where I want you
I got you, I got you
I got you where I want you now

Ever since my baby went away
It's been the blackest day, it's been the blackest day
All I hear is Billie Holiday
It's all that I play
It's all that I play

It's not one of those phases I'm going through
Or just a song, it's no one else's
I'm on my own
On my own
On my own again
I'm on my own again
I'm on my own again
I'm on my own again
I'm on my own again

"It's what you gathered from my talk, but you were wrong It's not easy for me to talk about A half-life in lost dreams And not simple strength [?] It's hard to express I can't explain"

I think the correct lyric is

"It's what you gathered from our talk, but you were wrong It's not easy for me to talk about A half-life in lost dreams And not simple, it's trigonometry It's hard to express, I can't explain"

Also, I do not think it's about a miscarriage. I think this is, as she has referenced in many of her songs, such as Blue Jeans, that her man left her and she is lonely and sad without him. Her life is spiraling out of control and into a very dark place. A black day is a day without him; the "light of her life".

My Interpretation

I think this is about her break up with Barry Oneil

Recently news came out that Lana broke up with him in an interview but it was really all just mistaken words- "i don't really wanna break up we got it going on, it's what you gathered from my talk but you were wrong"

Previously Lana had said that she destroyed that relationship because of her insecurities and anxiety, but after the interview news came out Barry said he thought he was also not doing her any good because of his depression and self esteem, etc. "you're not simple, it's trigonometry" - Lana saying that he isn't simple and had his own issues too

"holding your hand listen to our song" -HELLO THEY SANG SUMMER WINE TOGETHER

everyone knows Lana was most upset after that breakup so this song makes 100% sense to the scenario. I feel really bad for them :/ "in on my own again" x 4 That end part literally makes my throat go lumpy every time

"a half-life lost in dreams"

Is actually

" I have heavy heartstrings"

It's about a relationship that she didn't want to end, but eventually had too because neither one of them were happy anymore and the darkness and depression that followed after it was over.

'I don't really wanna break up, we got it going on It's what you gathered from my talk, but you were wrong It's not easy for me to talk about"

She doesn't want the relationship to end, even though her partner thinks otherwise. She's not good at discussing her feelings and often gives off the wrong impression.

"Carry me home, don't wanna talk about the things to come Just put your hands up in the air, the radio on 'Cause there's nothing for us to talk about Like the future and those things 'Cause there's nothing for me to think about'

She'd rather ignore the problems in the relationship then face them head on because she doesn't want to accept the problems, she'd rather just forget about them and pretend everything is alright.

Very haunting, yet so powerful. I personally think this is about her relationship with Barrie, but I could be wrong. Barrie didn't want the relationship to end and didn't even know about the breakup until he heard it from someone else. Regardless, they both deeply loved one another and I think she had a really hard time, as did he, with the split.

In this song Lana laments that she had a miscarriage. The rest is pretty self-explanatory.
