Fools Lyrics
I am tired of this place, I hope people change
I need time to replace what I gave away
And my hopes, they are high, I must keep them small
Though I try to resist, I still want it all
I see swimming pools and living rooms and aeroplanes
I see a little house on the hill and children's names
I see quiet nights poured over ice and Tanqueray
But everything is shattering and it's my mistake
Only fools fall for you, only fools
Only fools do what I do, only fools fall
Only fools fall for you, only fools
Only fools do what I do, only fools fall
Oh, our lives don't collide, I'm aware of this
The differences and impulses and your obsession with
The little things you like stick, and I like aerosol
I don't give a fuck, not giving up, I still want it all
Only fools fall for you, only fools
Only fools do what I do, only fools fall
Only fools fall for you, only fools
Only fools do what I do, only fools fall
I see swimming pools and living rooms and aeroplanes
I see a little house on the hill and children's names
I see quiet nights part over ice and Tanqueray
But everything is shattering and it's my mistake
Only fools fall for you, only fools fall
Only fools do what I do, only fools fall

The futility of love. He loves his boyfriend, but knows that their love is doomed because of their environment. Despite his love, despite the fact he sees a life together with a family and more, he knows only a fool would let himself be caught up in the fantasy of a happy ending.
the chorus is misleading because it makes it seem as if the problems and whatnot are the lover's fault. however, the verses tell otherwise. it seems that their environment doesn't foster the possibility for their love to be successful (for example, a same gender relationship in a world that isn't accepting of same gender relationships). he's saying "only fools fall for you" meaning "only fools would fall in love with someone they can't really be with". it's a romeo and juliet like situation.
This song is about a person wanting so much from a relationship, but in return they get nothing but disappointment. The person feels manipulated, and blames no one but themselves.
Two people that love each other but don't fit. Classic. Too many differences, even the "little things" standing out between the two of them. He's caught between what he knows in his head and feels in his heart. He knows they don't work, he "tries to resists" but "still wants it all" so he's putting himself through this obviously flawed relationship knowing that it could only end in their. or at least his, destruction. He's imagining their life together, years in the future, but when he remembers how their pieces don't fit together in the puzzle of life, it breaks his heart. When he remembers the problems they're already having, it breaks his heart. Only a fool would continue to be with someone knowing it couldn't work...and "only fools do what I do"
