Karen Don't Be Sad Lyrics
Oh, Karen
You take it all too hard
You been talking to those fools again
And they'll tear your world apart
Oh, Karen
You gotta try to understand
Gotta hold on to your soul
'Cause they'll crush it if they can
So, Karen don't be sad
They're just a bunch of fools
And you can make them powerless
Don't let them make the rules
So, Karen don't be sad
You know the truth is true
The world can still be beautiful
That part's up to you
So, Karen don't be sad
Oh, Karen
You know you're only letting 'em win
By letting all their lies and hate
Destroy you from within-in
Oh, Karen
They've taken away your smile
But you can give it back to us
Just fake it for a while
So, Karen don't be sad
They're just a bunch of fools
And you can make them powerless
Don't let them make the rules
So, Karen don't be sad
You know the truth is true
The world can still be beautiful
That part's up to you
So, Karen don't be sad
So, Karen don't be sad
Don't let 'em win
Oh, don't let 'em win
Don't let them win
Don't let them win
Oh, don't let them win
Oh, don't let them win
Don't let them win
You take it all too hard
You been talking to those fools again
And they'll tear your world apart
Oh, Karen
You gotta try to understand
Gotta hold on to your soul
'Cause they'll crush it if they can
They're just a bunch of fools
And you can make them powerless
Don't let them make the rules
So, Karen don't be sad
You know the truth is true
The world can still be beautiful
That part's up to you
So, Karen don't be sad
You know you're only letting 'em win

They're just a bunch of fools
And you can make them powerless
Don't let them make the rules
So, Karen don't be sad
You know the truth is true
The world can still be beautiful
That part's up to you
So, Karen don't be sad
Don't let 'em win
Oh, don't let 'em win
Don't let them win
Don't let them win
Oh, don't let them win
Oh, don't let them win
Don't let them win

This song was a huge surprise in such a really out-there album. It makes me somber and sad (kind of ignoring the title's intention),but it's so meaningful. I wish she'd write more things like this because this sounds so relaxing and caring. It's obvious that she's telling this girl named Karen (possibly Karen Carpenter) not to let people make her think that she's worthless and not as beautiful as she truly is,but I'd also like to think Miley's also referring to your inner demons and dark, intrusive thoughts. Karen Don't Be Sad is definitely the best on the album.
The song is a message of hope and resilience meant for a woman named Karen who is transgender and ultimately took her own life (in a film btw.). This song is featured in the soundtrack for the 2010 film The Last Song. It was co-written by the lead singer of The Flaming Lips, hence the psychedelic ballad feel.
Like I said about The National's song "Karen", anybody named Karen may think it's about her (or him if you're from Russia or their people if you're from Thailand, as Karen is a people there). I don't know this for sure since I don't know Miley personally, but it sounds like she could be singing about me when I get into my outbursts when I start crying over things that may make no sense to someone else. She may be telling me that while my family means well, they don't always know what's best for me.
