Light It Up Lyrics

Stand up like a soldier baby
Yeah, I know you're built like that
Gun it like a holster baby
Show dem' seh' you wicked like that

We live where the war is raging
Chasing our crazy dreams
Hoping that the bridge won't cave in
Tonight we'll let it all go free

Gimme di' thing and mek' me rock inna' di dance
Gimme di' thing and mek' me rock inna' di' dance
Mash it up, hot step inna' di' dance
Gimme di' thing and mek' me rock

Gimme di' thing and mek' me rock inna' di dance
Gimme di' thing and mek' me rock inna' di' dance
Mash it up, hot step inna' di' dance
Gimme di' thing and mek' me rock

Set it ablaze like a candle wick
Hotter, hotter, hotter, hotter, hotter
Yeah light it up, set it a
Light it up, light it up
Light it up

Fire like a soldier baby
No retreating we nuh' pree that
Never make them hold ya baby
Heart nuh' feeble, we nuh take chat

We live where the war is raging
Chasing our crazy dreams
Hoping that the bridge won't cave in
Tonight we'll let it all go free

Gimme di' thing and mek' me rock inna' di dance
Gimme di' thing and mek' me rock inna' di' dance
Mash it up, hot step inna' di' dance
Gimme di' thing and mek' me rock

Set it ablaze like a candle wick,
hotter, hotter, hotter, hotter, hotter
Light it up, yeah light it up
Set it ablaze like a candle wick,
hotter, hotter, hotter, hotter, hotter
Yeah light it up, light it up
Light it up, light it up
Light it up

Cover art for Light It Up lyrics by Major Lazer

I believe this song is about just rocking out even when the war is happening in the background. Sometimes, there are tragedies happening all over the world, but we don't seem to notice or even care, because we're too busy partying. This song is letting us know how awful we are for ignoring the horrors of war that go on outside of the club.

It could also mean the following: the first part of the song compares the listener to a soldier, but is all about partying. So I think Major Lazar is suggesting that when you party for a long enough time, you lose sight of what's real and tragic and ultimately combine the reality of war with the comforting fantasy of partying at the club.

So I guess it's about losing your grip on reality. It's also really catchy. :)
