Peaches Lyrics
I've been working on my knees baby it's alright
Everybody got disease maybe it's alright
You can steal from me baby that's just fine
You can say it's free baby that's alright
Working on a feeling
Breaking down the ceiling
Digging up a deep end
Freezing on the beaches
Reaching for the sweetest, sweetest peaches
We won't live too long
So let's love for one song
The lion won't lay down
When the holy man's in town
You've been drinking all week baby that's alright
You've been stepping on me baby it's alright
You've been tearing me apart in the dead of night
I'll be raising my hands when the lighting strikes
Working on a feeling
Breaking down the ceiling
Digging up a deep end
Freezing on the beaches
Reaching for the sweetest, sweetest peaches
We won't live too long
So let's love for one song
The lion won't lay down
When the holy man's in town
Working on a feeling
Breaking down the ceiling
Digging up a deep end
Freezing on the beaches
Reaching for the sweetest, sweetest peaches
We won't live too long
So let's love for one song
The lion won't lay down
When the holy man's in town
Working on a feeling
Breaking down the ceiling
Digging up a deep end
Freezing on the beaches

Breaking down the ceiling
Digging up a deep end

Prostitute and John, or two people in self-destructive situations or dire straits. But they acknowledge they are messed up, and accept each other. They decide to take the pleasures of life that they can, together, while they have the chance.
In a nutshell, helping each other out despite their problems and situations. Funnily, the music video makes it sound like a straight love song without hinting at the darker side.
I think the Holy Man and Lion bit means their appetites (for sex, drugs, etc.) come through despite their best intentions. At least they can genuinely show love for a short while.
Not sure what "I'll be raising my hands when the lightning strikes" refers to...possibly an intention of suicide if the opportunity arises?
This song is about 2 beautiful people who love each other but know each other has another life, a toxic life, but each accepts it. When they say everybody’s got disease it’s acknowledging we all are imperfect. When I hear the lion won’t lay down when the holy man’s in town I think of her not turning tricks on her period. I think the tearing me apart in the dead of the night is his inability to accept her role as most men would even though he loves her.
