I Ain't Never

Well I ain't never been so darn blue
I ain't never worn holes in my shoes

I guess that these are just hard times
I went to my job at the general store
Found out my job wasn't there anymore
I hollered at my boss and I asked "What for?"
He said that these are just hard times
I went to the bank to get my severance pay
The teller asked for me to go away
We ain't got your money, at least not today
Don't you know that these are just hard times?
I went to my wife and my children at home
Looked all around, and saw they had gone
A note on the table only said "So long,
We gotta run away from these hard times"

I went to a church for to go and pray
But there on the front door a sign did say:
"Closed to the public for a funeral today,
Lord, give us help in these hard times"
I went to the river and I started to cry
Weeping and moaning screaming "Why oh why?"
I would've drowned myself but the river was dry
Ain't no escaping these hard times
I dried my eyes with my handkerchief
Put my best foot forward heavy laden with grief
Nothing left to do but to wait for relief
By the end of these long hard times
