Hey Adam Lyrics
Hey Adam, our secret's safe
But I hope the world will learn
Go tend to Eve in the garden, crying
But pay attention to these words
If it ain't fear that holds us
It's fear that tears us down
Down and I have come to tell you now
That our Father loves you always
Well you may spend a lifetime and many more by her hand
Reassuring the blind ones calling our love sin
Well many flames are rising
And many hearts will die
Well I am lying in your shadow but I know you'd rather lay by my side
Well our Father loves you always
Some grow weak in anger
Few grow weak in pain
Whose eyes are holding, tell me
Whose mind is sane?
Hey Adam, our secret's safe
But I hope the world will learn
Go tend to Eve in the garden, crying
Please hear these words
Our Father loves you always
But I hope the world will learn
Go tend to Eve in the garden, crying
But pay attention to these words
It's fear that tears us down
Down and I have come to tell you now
Reassuring the blind ones calling our love sin
Well many flames are rising
And many hearts will die
Well I am lying in your shadow but I know you'd rather lay by my side
Few grow weak in pain
Whose eyes are holding, tell me
Whose mind is sane?
But I hope the world will learn
Go tend to Eve in the garden, crying
Please hear these words

I discovered this song a few weeks ago and have listened to it every day because I absolutely adore the fiddle solo. The chords are deeply personal and resonated with a very brotherly feeling. Every time I hear this song, I think about my little brothers. Well, I suddenly awoke to what I think might have been the intention of this song: I think he's singing about gay love. It's all a play on the old Christian argument: it was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. So the singer is addressing Adam directly as the symbol of his object of affection. "Hey Adam/Our secret's safe/But I hope the world will learn". When paired with the themes of love and later elaboration..."You may spend a lifetime/And many more by her hand/Reassuring the blind ones/Calling our love sin." That line alone seems pretty clear, when you single it out. The traditional love is a reassurance to the blind ones, a condemnation of the love that the singer and Adam secretly share. "Well I am lying in your shadows but I know you'd rather/Lay by my side." And of course, the unifying theme of love anyway: "Our father loves you always."
I don't know hardly anything about Watchhouse, but I do know that their lyrics are often puzzles (The Wolves is another example--a very poetic song that is singing about the Statue of Liberty, I think). Anyway, this interpretation opens many rabbit holes.
i got the impression Lilith was talking to him, after Eve found out they\'d had a little tryst? Yeah, i know that sounds kinda out there...but that\'s what came to mind.\n\n...i also think Andrew\'s probably the best "song writer" I\'ve heard in quite awhile. Of course, there\'s different flavors for different taste, but i know what i like, and what\'s involved in writing a well crafted song!
actually, i want to amend my comment. Ave\'s upset because she doesn\'t know where Adam went? and Lilith is telling him "Their secrets safe."
