5AM Lyrics

We run into a dark room
And spasm to the sounds
Of a copy of Morrissey
Or the blues of the deep south

The drugs will only hide it
The feeling never really goes
And no, you won't find love at the bottom
Of a glassy hole

You don't know what you've got until its gone
You don't know who to love until you're lost
You don't know how to feel until the moment's passed
I wish you'd live like you were made of glass

We've got work in the morning
But it's nearly 5am
Is this really what we envisioned?
We won't be 21 again

In the haze you'll see colours
And problems suddenly make sense
The way you've been going
You'll be in an early grave

You don't know what you've got until it's gone
You don't know who to love until you're lost
You don't know how to feel until the moment's passed
I wish you'd live like you were made of glass

The song to me is about him telling his lover that they need to enjoy life and the little things because you're only young once and he's asking if they really want to live that way

To me this song is about a couple who have been married for a long time, and are starting to not love each other anymore. They stay up late and argue and wish that they were young and in love again. As they are separating they look back and realize all of the signs that they’re love wasn’t going to last.

This song is actually about someone they knew who was a ketamine addict.

Song Fact

To me this song is about a person coming back to where they grew up, after being gone and living their life successfully, then seeing that someone they were very close to, like a best friend, gf, etc.) that you had your best times and menories with, got stluck....I assume maybe that person has been destroyed by those things you did with them, and that you were able to walk away from, yet they've succumbed to.

(I don't know whether I'm right or wrong, for me, interpreting a song isn't a right or wrong, yes or no proposition. Songs can mean different things td different people. That's why songs like this are so meaningful and beautiful...they touch us personally and have a way of taking us back to a time, person, or event in our lives. So I would never put someones interpretation down. I write music, so I read alot about different SongWriters and many of the greats would never say what their lyrics were about, because they didn't want to encroach on their listeners personal meaning. I use to think that was a cop out and they just said that because the song was random and not about anything except some words that sound right together. I was very wrong and have alot of respect for they that act this way. It shows they put the listeners experience above their own ego. Like a gift, "Here, I'm giving you this with no strings attached . Do with it as you wish, it's your song now. Rather beautiful I think, and why Music is the most loved form of artistic expression. ***I've also noticed on alot of other sites, the lyrics to this song are incorrect. This site is 1 of the few that have "...you won't find love at the bottom of a Class C hole." others have glassy bottle, glassy bottom, I even thought the lyric was "....in a glassine vial" as in what some heroin comes in. But I too was wrong. :D

I think that this song is about a young couple who is 21 (We won't be 21 again) And they have been doing drugs and a lot of alcohol (you won't find love at the bottom, of a class c hole. The drugs would only hide it) Then one of them dies from an overdose maybe and the other one is left alone. (You don't know what you got until it's gone, and you don't know who to love until your lost) Then the alive one finds a new partner and they doesn't want to repeat what happened to the old one. (I wish you lived like you're made of glass)

I think this song is about a couple who is in their early 20\'s. The one singing is asking their partner if drinking and doing drugs is really how they want to spend the rest of their lives (Is this really what we envisioned?). Like "aren\'t you getting tired of the same old scene?"\n\nSome of us have been there and not just with romantic partners but people close to us. There comes a point where having fun (drinking and doing recreational drugs) becomes tiring after awhile and we just want to settle down or do something more with our lives but the people around us don\'t. Although we get that it is a fun way of living, it is also a short-lived one (In the haze you\'ll see colors, And problems suddenly make sense, The way you\'ve been going, You\'ll be in an early grave).\n\nIn the song, the singer is simply trying to make the other person see that the way they are living has consequences and that they should live more carefully (I wish you\'d lived like you were made of glass). He is hoping that they see how valuable their life is and how easily it is to lose it if they continue on the wrong path.
