You always get what you want,
And you don't even try.
Your friends hate it when it's always going your way
But I'm glad that you've got luck on your side.

You're saying definitely maybe...
I'm saying probably no.
You say "You sleep when you're dead"
I'm scared I'll die in my sleep.
I guess that's not a bad way to go.

I wanna go out but I wanna stay home.
I wanna go out but I wanna stay home.

Why are you so eager to please?
I wear my heart on my sleeve.
Get's harder in the winter
Gotta be a fake or shiver.
It takes a great deal out of me.

Yes, I like hearing your stories
But I've heard them all before.
I'd rather stay in bed
With the rain over my head,
Than have to pick my brain up off of the floor.

I wanna go out but I wanna stay home.
I wanna go out but I wanna stay home.

I wanna go out but I wanna stay home.
I wanna go out but I wanna stay home.
I wanna go out but I wanna stay home.
I wanna go out but I wanna stay home.

    My Opinion

Who hasn't experienced the feeling described in the chorus of this amazing song... First time I heard it, last year @Glastonbury, I was just enthralled by its sheer energy. Then I read the lyrics and couldn't help but smile with the Oasis wink ("definitely maybe")

It's a debate between two people (it can absolutely be an inside-of-your-mind discussion), one of whom wants to go out a lot, and the other one who just want to stay home. The tongue-in-cheek humor CB has always demonstrated is here at its best with lines like "You say You sleep when you're dead, I'm scared I'll die in my sleep"

    Love it

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Spirit Within
Bertoldi Brothers
Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
