Solitaire Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Don't wanna talk anymore
I'm obsessed with silence
I go home and I lock my door
I can hear the sirens
I see buildings and bars from the window
And I listen to the wind blow
I see people and cars covered in gold
And I'm happy to be on my own
[Pre-Chorus]
Hard like a rock, cold like a stone
White like a diamond, black like coal
Cut like a jewel, yeah I repair
Myself when you're not there
[Chorus]
Solitaire
Something you consider
Rare
I don't wanna be compared
With that cheap shimmer and glitter
Solitaire
[Verse 2]
I'm in love with ice blue grey skies of England
I'll admit all I wanna do is get drunk and silent
Watch my life unfold all around me
Like a beautiful garden
I see flowers so tall they surround me
Oh my heart, it became so hardened
[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
And all the other jewels around me
They astounded me at first
I covered up my heart in boundaries
And all the fakes they called me cursed
But I'm not cursed, I'm not cursed
I was just covered in the dirt
[Chorus]
Don't wanna talk anymore
I'm obsessed with silence
I go home and I lock my door
I can hear the sirens
I see buildings and bars from the window
And I listen to the wind blow
I see people and cars covered in gold
And I'm happy to be on my own
Hard like a rock, cold like a stone

From my perspective it's obviously loving being on your own and realizing you don't need a partner in your life in order to be a succesful person. Because people have this thing in their minds that they need to be in a relationship and I see many people pushing themselves into one because they think it's bad to be single.
But from my point of view being on your own is one of the greatest things in life. You get to figure out yourself, you get to do what you want, there is absolute freedom and no one can do anything about that.
You can read books, you can prepare for your exams, you can work out and nobody can say about that. This song is about being independent and loving that.
You don't need a partner in your life in order to be succesful. You only need you!
That's how I see this song.
With the situation I am in right now, I have interpreted the song as the beginning of falling in love. "Don't wanna talk anymore I'm obsessed with silence I go home and I lock my door I can hear the sirens Don't wanna talk anymore I'm obsessed with silence I go home and I lock my door I can hear the sirens" I'm so caught up in my emotions and I'm trying to figure them out, I want silence, I want to be alone as I realize that I am falling in love. Sirens are blaring as if it's dangerous. At this point of the song, I am unsure of how I am feeling about the situation.
"I repair myself when you're not there" I go over every last detail of when we last met, calming my excitement and nervousness and almost 'reviewing it' because before I did that I didn't really know what his actions meant, if he liked me, if he found me odd etc and I won't be settled until I know the intention of his actions for certain.
"Something you consider rare I don't wanna be compared With that cheap shimmer and glitter" It's like I'm the one for him, I'm better than the other girls; I'm a diamond; I'm genuine I'm beautiful etc.
"I'm in love with the ice-blue, gray skies of England I'll admit, all I wanna do is get drunk and silent Watch my life unfold all around me Like a beautiful garden I see flowers so tall, they surround me Oh my heart, it became so hardened" I believe this describes the approach of being in love. It's beautiful, you just let it happen and I just want to get drunk and be with him, lay my head on his shoulder in the silence. My heart became hardened because for me, being in love my heart doesn't feel like a balloon in my chest. It feels really heavy, and something hard like a diamond the size of a heart in your chest would be heavy.
"And all the other jewels around me They astounded me at first I covered up my heart in boundaries And all the fakes, they called me cursed But I'm not cursed, I'm not cursed I was just covered in dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt" I feel like this is the revelation that I am in love, and it is great (I'm not cursed). I will allow myself to love (heart in boundaries), I will take this risk and allowing myself to take this risk is like removing my dirt.
@finnaqua It's interesting to see that interpretation as mine was completely different. Probably because of my own situation I interpreted it as the end of a relationship and finding comfort and a sense of worth in oneself. Again, possibly because of my own situation I see this theme running through the entirety of 'Froot' as an album.

Feels to me like a song about being very introverted and coming to terms with that. "I repair myself when you're not there" -- introverts often need alone time after social interaction or heavy stimulation to rebuild or recharge. I think the song is about realizing it's okay to want to be alone, to want to shy away from the limelight or whatever. Others may not be that way, and that's okay.
