Pups to Dust Lyrics
Our hearts don't change
From pups to dust
Couldn't see clearly, but I had a sense of what right and wrong was
Honest to God
I was honest as hell
I don't lie very often but I lie very well
Give it away
Take what you need
Love does not cost money, but it ain't free
We're learning slowly
Equal parts of what you do, you don't
We don't remember
We don't remember just how we got here
Equal parts of what we do, we don't
We don't belong here
We were just born here
We remain the same
(Um, I'm not sure about that)
Or pretty much the same
(That's more like it)
From birth to grave
I couldn't see clearly what I was or became
Oh I missed a spot
(Scrubba scrubba scrubba)
On my dirty thoughts
The way we feel about what we do is by who has watched us, so . . .
Aw, how'd we get here
Equal parts of what we do, we don't
We don't remember
We're just born here though
Oh what's the bother
Equal parts of what you do, you don't
We don't remember, we were just born here though
We don't belong here, we were just born here
I feel so anxious mostly all of the time
If there's some point to this then which one is mine?
We really don't belong here, we really ought to wander
We really don't belong here, we really ought to wander
We really don't belong here, we really ought to wander away
From pups to dust
Couldn't see clearly, but I had a sense of what right and wrong was
I was honest as hell
I don't lie very often but I lie very well
Take what you need
Love does not cost money, but it ain't free
Equal parts of what you do, you don't

The song is about confusion about how we (the human race) came to be and why we happened to evolve on this planet which seems to not really jive with how we live our lives considering how we destroy the planet on which we were born on."From birth to grave I couldn't see clearly what I was or became" and "The way we feel about what we do is by who has watched us" are the more interesting lyrics of this song.
I really like this song. "The way we feel about what we do is by who has watched us, so..." SERIOUSLY. SO GOOD.
To me, this song is just perfect. It sums up the human experience perfectly. Always wondering why we're here and how we got here, and always distracted by and bogged down by the thoughts and opinions of those around us. We crave the answers to the big questions but we are still attempting to learn how to live and progress amongst each other. I apologize if my thoughts aren't coherent. This song makes me feel so much. Definitely love this whole album and this is definitely my favorite track on the album.
The first couple of times I listened to this song I thought about it in the same manner as the other messages here, mainly about human nature, etc. but the more Iisten I take it as a relationship that's gone sour. I think there's a sarcastic undertone yet having an epiphany when we says we were just born here, during the breakup is where he realizes just exactly what this is, and who they are. And possibly even cheating because the one line sums it up perfectly, the way we feel about what we do is by who has watched us, so true, so honest,
Pups to Dust - Babys to decomposed body We have instincts like animals yet somehow Lying have become primal for humans. The on average human goals of falling in love comes with a price. Even though you just became part of the earth - you are ushered into a society of Cost and Obligation. 'Having national pride or fighting for your country - why?? The object to life is subjective yet the blind eye only believe what they are told.
So whats the big picture... Humans have trapped themselves into this social game instead of being truly free and doing that which brings real meaning and happiness... The whole song is like a wake up call - meeting you where you are at to reach in and turn on the light to your reality. Its crazy. Very good work here.
