Easy Way Out Lyrics

Heard you call my name
While I'm passing out
The mistake I've made
It can't be turned around

I took the easy way out
I took the easy way out
I took the easy way out

I went one for one
Before passing out.
The mistake I've made,
It can't be turned around, no.

I took the easy way out
I took the easy way out
I took the easy way out

I want to feel something again, memorable
I want to feel something again, memorable

I want to feel something again, memorable
I want to feel something again, memorable

I think this song is pretty straight-forward. It's sung from the POV of a soul that just commited suicide, and now that he crossed to the other side, he's seeing that it was a HUGE mistake.

My Interpretation

Nearly perfect, however, in both verses, instead of it being, "the mistake(s) I've made," it is, in fact, "The Mistake I've made." It doesn't seem like a huge change, but it changes the entire outcome of the song.

Instead of it now sounding as though the narrator is speaking about rough patches that he can't change in his life, it sounds as though he's overdosed on some type of drug, and he's saying it's too late. This was a mistake, but it's a mistake that I can't change, aka I took the easy way out and gave up. He's dying.

You made a second mistake transcribing the lyrics. Another user said that it's 'mistake' instead of mistake, which is important as the meaning is made more obvious, but to address another issue, the second chorus is not "before passing out" it's "before casting out".

This little change makes it painfully obvious that the lyrics are the last thoughts of a recent suicide. 'Casting out', if you aren't familiar with the phrase explicitly means 'death'.

Song Meaning

@Umbrellacorp53 mistake, not mistakes

@Umbrellacorp53 it clearly says “passing out.” That’s an unmistakeable P at the beginning of that word. And there’s no T in “passing.” The song is still about someone being regretful that they chose to end their life, but he’s clearly “passing out,” not “casting out.”
