I really love this artist, and the metaphor of being a sinking ship in a life without love is pretty awesome. Love It!!
I think Nate is nothing without love. But in all seriousness, this is an absolutely spectacular song! It really hit home, showing that the most important things in life are the people that make it worth living. Truly beautiful. One of his best!
I see it like everyone else, that Nate is nothing without love.
He makes references to being lost, substanceless, intangible (thoughts without a pen), basically nothing in a million different ways.
He contrasts that with what he takes to be the opposite of "nothing", such as feeling home, warm, whole, and "in the light". You can feel that some parts of the music sound like they are lacking love, and some parts sound energetic and full of love.
