Embezzler Lyrics
Rah! Tss! Oo!
I wrote a letter
To my very own Cinderella.
And she had been taken
By a dirty thief to quench his cravings
Thief! Rah! Tss! Oo!
Lost my lover to the hands of a thief
The letter he took from me, my only key
He tricked me, he tricked her, and stole away
My lover is gone, never see her again
Thief! Rah! Tss! Oo!
I wrote a letter
To my very own Cinderella.
My words, stolen
By a hooded witch, who was eating kids in a forest full of muffins
As I was walking the witches were watching
The forest was whispering, a shadow was stalking
It's then that I noticed, my letter I'd lost it
Someone must've picked it up and put it in their pocket.
Thief, thief, drop it!
Thief, thief, drop it!
Thief! Rah! Tss! Oo!
Rah! Tss! Oo!
Lost my lover to the hands of a thief
The letter he took from me, my only key
He tricked me, he tricked her, and stole away
My lover is gone, never see her again.
To my very own Cinderella.
And she had been taken
By a dirty thief to quench his cravings
The letter he took from me, my only key
He tricked me, he tricked her, and stole away
My lover is gone, never see her again
To my very own Cinderella.
My words, stolen
By a hooded witch, who was eating kids in a forest full of muffins
The forest was whispering, a shadow was stalking
It's then that I noticed, my letter I'd lost it
Someone must've picked it up and put it in their pocket.
Thief, thief, drop it!
The letter he took from me, my only key
He tricked me, he tricked her, and stole away
My lover is gone, never see her again.

“Embezzler is the oldest track on Any Given Weekend. It was written and recorded at the start of 2010 and was one of the first songs we uploaded to triple j unearthed. At first we weren’t sure about the idea of including old material on our debut album, but because this song has been a constant highlight of our live show over the past four years we thought we’d slip it in as a kind of homage to where the band came from.
The lyrics are inspired by an old nursery rhyme infused with some dark themes stemming from some of our personal experience with hallucinogens. It was a nice feeling to end our debut album on the same track that our debut EP began with, like neatly tying off the last knot on the last few years of work.”
