Uptown Funk Lyrics

This is, that ice cold
Michelle Pfeiffer, that white gold
This one for them hood girls
Them good girls straight masterpieces
Stylin', whilen, livin' it up in the city
Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent
Got kiss myself, I'm so pretty

I'm too hot (hot damn)
Got a police and a fireman
I'm too hot (hot damn)
Make a dragon wanna retire man
I'm too hot (hot damn)
Say my name you know who I am
I'm too hot (hot damn)
Am I bad 'bout that money, break it down

Girls hit your hallelujah (whoo)
Girls hit your hallelujah (whoo)
Girls hit your hallelujah (whoo)
'Cause uptown funk gon' give it to you
'Cause uptown funk gon' give it to you
'Cause uptown funk gon' give it to you
Saturday night and we in the spot
Don't believe me just watch (come on)

Don't believe me just watch uh

Don't believe me just watch
Don't believe me just watch
Don't believe me just watch
Don't believe me just watch
Hey, hey, hey, oh

Stop, wait a minute
Fill my cup, put some liquor in it
Take a sip, sign a check
Julio, get the stretch
Ride to Harlem, Hollywood
Jackson, Mississippi
If we show up, we gon' show out
Smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy

I'm too hot (hot damn)
Called a police and a fireman
I'm too hot (hot damn)
Make a dragon wanna retire man
I'm too hot (hot damn)
Bitch say my name you know who I am
I'm too hot (hot damn)
Am I bad 'bout that money
Break it down

Girls hit your hallelujah (whoo)
Girls hit your hallelujah (whoo)
Girls hit your hallelujah (whoo)
'Cause uptown funk gon' give it to you
'Cause uptown funk gon' give it to you

Uptown funk you up uh
I said uptown funk you up

Uptown funk you up

Come on, dance, jump on it
If you sexy then flaunt it
If you freaky then own it
Don't brag about it, come show me

Come on, dance
Jump on it
If you sexy then flaunt it
Well it's Saturday night and we in the spot
Don't believe me just watch come on!

I use the lyrics of American songs to help my ESL students learn slang. In this song, there are lots of references I don't understand. I've tried to find explanations, but nothing. Maybe you can help.

I love how this song is credited to Mark Ronson ... I imagine he does the music behind the song. Really though Bruno Mars brings this song to life, and really is the big reason for its popularity (partly because of his brand but also because of his voice).

This is one of the few pop hits I have really enjoyed of late (although being overplayed now). Has really funky tune to it, and definitely has a Prince cum early Michael Jackson sound to it (Bruno has been playing around with this style for a while now).

Does no one else see the references to cocaine in the first verse?

This hit, that ice cold (Cocaine is often referred to as "snow")

Michelle Pfeiffer, that white gold

(Cocaine is often referred to as "white girl" and then often attached to a specific famous white woman, for example 'that Britney Spears' "That Christina Aguilar" "that Miley Cyrus". Also, "white gold" is a reference to cocaine because of its street value"

This one for them hood girls (hood girls love cocaine"

@danbrah88 I am surprised I had to read all of these comments to see what I figured it was. I think you hit it spot on.

after I started looking deeper into these lyrics a month ago, certain lines started to stick out. 'uptown funk you up' for example. this may be too deep, but ever wonder what 'don't believe me, just watch.' means? it's a threat. this song is about rape.
