Carnivore

I think this songs talks about the afects of society on an individual. The society limits you, not allowing you to fulfil yourself. This limitations cannot be broken, so every person most keep his rage against society in deep inside him. In the end of the song the author discribes the effects of repressing your inner self, losing self control and eventually going insane. The corus is some sort of a retorical request. The narrator asks society, the carnivore, to come "digest"- make him go through the process of change into the sorpressed person he is to be, by taking away the things that make him the unique person he is. I love this song and the band, hope you like my thoughts about the song :)

I feel the song is basically talking about letting your "inner self", the part of you that you keep locked up, out into the world.

The first verse talks about how the naysayers say you'll never be anything, but there's a part of you that refuses to accept that and it's anxiously awaiting for you to let it out.

The bridge is basically the naysayers talking saying the world doesn't need to hear you and to give up.

The chorus is basically you begging your inner self to come out and take yourself over so that no part of your former-self remains.

The second verse is just another part of the chorus, saying you'll be whatever your "inner self" wants you to be.

The part before the final chorus is saying that you're "real self" isn't enough and you need your "inner self" to take over.

The reference to chewing through ropes and being eaten by a carnivore suggests he feels specifically like prey - weak, helpless, victimized and definitely unheard, worthless. In human terms "never [good] enough".

There's no sense of self-pity, though. He recognizes that this hounding by the enemy (society, father-figure, whatever) isn't because he IS worthless, it's just what the enemy has tried to teach him since childhood ("Silly boy!")

But there's a lot of power in the lyrics (derived from anger) so he's fighting back. But he doesn't want to escape the ropes, he wants to be devoured and reborn into something completely new. ("Change me... Take away everything I am.")

To me it seems very clear that society is a carnivore. The carnivore is destroying an individual, crushing who they are. Individually is discharged, and being unique is met with strong backlash. There is little hope in changing one of the cores of society, so one who is their own person succumbs to the corruption of who they are: “won’t you come digest me? Take away everything I am”. The chorus is a metaphorical request to have the process, the forced metamorphosis, be over instead of living in the tormenting hell of vein suppressed but trying to retain individuality. The line were it seems to be another voice saying “who are you to change this word? Silly boy!” implies that this was ingrained into the person at a young age. “Silly boy” is a term said to a child, so when a unique child tries to explore who they are and what they can be, the message of conformity was instantly enforced. The narrator is very clearly prey, he “chew[s] through the ropes” as though he has been overtaken by the predator, the carnivore. The second verse is describing how you push feeling and individuality down deep, and how they evolve into a consuming fire of rage, consuming who you are and what you can become. There is a sense of hopelessness to the song, but after multiple listening there seems to be an underlying part of you that is refusing to give up. A part of you that is always under the surface, growing and becoming less and less stable. The bridge is describing the release. After a life of being told who you are and what you should be, the true you has been twisted and deformed to something that will drives them to insanities. A life of repressing your inners self ends up causing a lack of self control driving the narrator to insanity.
