Sleepyhead City Lyrics

In the dark, in the dark
I saw you in the dark
In the dark, in the dark
Where were you in the dark?
Oh, oh, oh...

Your eyes, glowing eyes
They shine bright in the dark
All around me, inside me is the dark
It's in me
Oh, oh, oh...

Wake up, wake up
Sleepyhead city
Wake up, wake up
the sirens are sounding
Did you think I would let you go?
No, no...

Go to sleep, fall asleep now
You've fallen in my spell
Little girl, shout it out now
I've come to take your world
Take a look now
Aren't you scared now?
Your house is burning down
No, no, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no...

Wake up, wake up
Sleepyhead city
Oh wake up, wake up
The sirens are sounding
Did you think I would let you go?
Oh no...

Did you see? Can you see it?
Fire is raining down
Never look back, never ever look back
It's time to leave this town

Wake up, wake up
Sleepyhead city
Oh wake up, wake up
The sirens are sounding
Did you think I would let you go?
Oh, no, no, no...

Wake up, wake up, wake up
Sleepyhead city
Oh wake up, wake up
The sirens are sounding
Did you think I would let you go?
No, no...
Did you think I would let you go?
No, no...
Did you think I would let you go?
No, oh oh oh, no oh oh oh...

Get out...
Ooooo...

This song is interesting because it seems to briefly hint at a much larger story. The first thing we're told of the world being described is that there is darkness in it. A little girl is mentioned, as well as some unnamed thing that is seeking to keep her (and, presumably, all of the people of the city) asleep and under its spell.

There's an obvious connection/reference to the story of Sodom and Gomorrah ("Fire is raining down/Never look back, never ever look back"). Thus, it seems like the sleeping city found judgement in the end, but that someone (perhaps the little girl?) survived by leaving the city at the eleventh hour.

And that is all we're told. Such a rich story, told in such scattered fragments!
