From walking home and talking lows
Seeing chirps in evening clothes with you
From nervous touch and getting drunk
To staying up and waking up with you
Now we're slipping near the edge
Holding something we don't need
Oh, this delusion in our heads
Is gonna bring us to our knees
So come on, let it go
Just let it be
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me
Everything that's broke
Leave it to the breeze
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me
And I'll be me
From throwing clothes across the floor
To teeth and clothes and slamming doors at you
If this is all we're living for
Why are we doing it, doing it, doing it anymore?
I used to recognize myself
It's funny how reflections change
When we're becoming something else
I think it's time to walk away
So come on, let it go
Just let it be
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me
Everything that's broke
Leave it to the breeze
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me
And I'll be me
Trying to fit your hand inside mine
When we know it just don't belong
There's no force on earth
Could make it feel right, no
Tryna push this problem up the hill
When it's just too heavy to hold
Think now is the time to let it slide
So come on, let it go
Just let it be
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me
Everything that's broke
Leave it to the breeze
Let the ashes fall
Forget about me
Come on, let it fall
Just let it be
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me
And I'll be me
Seeing chirps in evening clothes with you
From nervous touch and getting drunk
To staying up and waking up with you
Holding something we don't need
Oh, this delusion in our heads
Is gonna bring us to our knees
Just let it be
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me
Leave it to the breeze
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me
To teeth and clothes and slamming doors at you
If this is all we're living for
Why are we doing it, doing it, doing it anymore?
It's funny how reflections change
When we're becoming something else
I think it's time to walk away
Just let it be
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me
Leave it to the breeze
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me
When we know it just don't belong
There's no force on earth

Just let it be
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me

it's a breakup song where both of them find themselves becoming two different people while they are together. like, sometimes you don't even recognize or know who you are anymore in a relationship that just doesn't work. the first verse is just about how when it was good between them but all other versus suggest that it isn't that way anymore. sometimes when you're in a relationship with someone, you start mentally sabotaging it by thinking the worst (like if they are flirting/cheating with others, not who you thought they were, etc.) and it eats at you. i think that's what he means when he talks about the delusions. i think when he says "why don't you be you and i'll be me?" is him saying that they should go their separate ways so that they can feel like themselves again and not in constant hurt and misery because of their relationship. "...leave it to the breeze" is him saying that there isn't any use in trying to fix it. just leave the broken pieces where they are and carry on. he's finally ready to move on and wants her to, too. i think he still cares a lot about her, but he realizes that they've lost too much of themselves and they'll keep doing so if they stay together.
If you've ever loved someone deeply to only realize that the relationship is toxic it is the worst. It takes so much sometimes to say goodbye. The pain can be so much that to you stay together to avoid feeling the pain of the break up and then later you realize the pain you have been avoiding has to be felt because the relationship is killing both of you. Breaking up is the worst but has to be done sometimes.

I haven't been in a break up situation but I fucking relate to this song
This song is beyond brilliant. Any intelligent person would conclude that this song is open to myriad interpretations. My take is one of a toxic relationship from the perspective of insidious drug co dependence. Getting drunk and staying up with you along with holding something we don't need resonates greatly in terms of my trials and tribulations related to drug abuse. He says why don't you be you and you be me. That speaks loudly in terms of the drugs taking one away from his or her true self.
He says if this is what we're living for, then why aren't we doing it any more? That correlates to opiates and the diminished or non existent sex drives that long term abuse elicits.
It's a wonderful song that anyone who has battled drug/opiate abuse can relate to. Outstanding writing.
Wow!!! Just listen...
I'm listening to the Disney's Frozen let it go song. These lyrics don't match that lyrics in the song AT ALL! VERY disappointed.
love this song...it deeply goes to my painful feelin right now....
