Wonderland Lyrics

Flashing lights and we, took a wrong turn and we
Fell down the rabbit hole
You held on tight to me
'Cause nothing's as it seems
Spinning out of control
Didn't they tell us don't rush into things
Didn't you flash your green eyes at me
Haven't you heard what becomes of curious minds
Ooh didn't it all seem new and exciting
I felt your arms twisting around me
I should've slept with one eye opened at night

We found wonderland
You and I got lost in it
And we pretended it could last forever, eh
We found wonderland
You and I got lost in it
And life was never worse but never better, eh
In wonderland, eh
In wonderland, eh
In wonderland, eh
In wonderland

So we went on our way
Too in love to think straight
All alone or so it seemed
But there were strangers watching
And whispers turned to talking
And talking turned to screams

Didn't they tell us don't rush into things
Didn't you flash your green eyes at me
Didn't you call my fears with the Cheshire Cat's smile
Ooh didn't it all seem new and exciting
I felt your arms twisting around me
It's all fun and games, still somebody loses their mind

Oh darling, we found wonderland
You and I got lost in it
And we pretended it could last forever, eh
We found wonderland
You and I got lost in it
And life was never worse but never better, eh
In wonderland, eh
In wonderland, eh
In wonderland, eh
(In won-) In wonderland

I reach for you
But you were gone
I knew I had to go back home
You searched the world for something else
To make you feel like what we had
And in the end in wonderland we both went mad

Oh, we found wonderland
You and I got lost in it
And we pretended it could last forever, eh (Last forever)
We found wonderland
You and I got lost in it (Got lost in it)
And life was never worse but never better, eh (Never better)
We found wonderland
You and I got lost in it (Wonderland)
And we pretended it could last forever, eh (In wonderland)
We found wonderland
You and I got lost in it (Wonderland)
And life was never worse but never better

In wonderland

I always thought this was about a relationship that was too good to be true. They were in there own little dream world. She knew it would end badly, she was warned, but she jumped right in anyways. Their relationship seemed amazing but eventually everything started to go wrong. Everytime she tried to leave he reasured her that everything was fine, they were in Wonderland. Slowly though, they fall out of love, and she realizises that she has to go back to reality, that it was never going to work. And after that, she was never the same. I absolutely love this bc of the story it tells and the almost creepy aspect it adds.

I honestly think this song has something to do with the book Splintered by a.g. Howard. The book is about Alice's great great granddaughter Alyssa Gardner Who has to go down to wonderland to fix Alice's mistakes and reverse a curse put on her family that makes her able to hear bugs and plants. She is followed by her best friend and crush Jebediah (Jeb) which explains the two people going down the rabbit hole. Also the song mentions green eyes, which is Jeb's eye color.... in wonderland Alyssa not only explains to Jeb what's going on and about wonderland when he gets curious (haven't you hear what becomes of curious minds) waken up with Jeb by the octobenus on the ocean of tears (I should've slept with one eye open at night) and went through many dangerous mad tasks. At the end of the book Jeb is stuck inside a jabbering box and basically dead. (I reach for you but you were gone) Alyssa uses a wish given to her from a ferret netherling and and saves him but he is back in the human world. (I knew I had to go back home) Also, they end up falling in love in wonderland and do kiss before continuing their journey. (We went on our way too in love to think straight) See my point??? Btw best book ever!

My Opinion

@bellathekitten Oops jabberlock not jabbering

A line that really fascinates me is "life was never worse but never better," because it could mean that the relationship had both extremes of feelings - intense love and happiness as well as intense desperation and conflict - as in life had never been this bad before but it had also never been this good. But I feel like it could be her life being almost unaffected by the relationship; her life wasn't worse because of the person, but they didn't make her life any better either, so the initial passion just wasn't worth it in the end.

My Interpretation

I think this song is about getting drunk and getting surgery.

"We found wonderland, you and I got lost in it"

You get lost in the pleasure and high that the drink gives you, and you act irresponsible, therefore you do something that you might later regret.

Filled with allusions to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, this bonus track finds two lovers tumbling down the rabbit hole to a place “where life was never worse or never better.” The boy’s flashing green eyes allude to the Cheshire Cat’s, while the music brings to mind, above all, the songs Sia has written for Rihanna, complete with their usual repetitions of “ey ey.”

It's probably about Harry Styles, given the green eyes, but other than that it's describing a relationship that's wild and beautiful, but falls apart in the most spectacular way imaginable. And obviously there's references to the media ("There's people watching")

This song is definitely about Harry Styles. The lyric is actually Cheshire Cat not treacherous cat referring to the fact that Harry is from Cheshire. And the reference to the green eyes of Harry's has definitely not gone unmissed. The entire reference to Alice in Wonderland ( a British story) can only suggest Harry's very obvious nationality.
