The Politics of Arguments

Every word has double meanings.
There’s one that’s true, and there’s one she hears.
And explanations only go as far as she is near.
I have no faith now in anything.
What once we called love, we now call convenience.
I have no face now to bury my hands.
You once let me comfort you, but now I can’t.
But there were demons in our heads that we couldn’t speak of even when
I would pray to understand her, but prayers go unanswered every day now
and today’s no different. What once was together now seems so damn separate. I’m sobering up, but you don’t seem to notice, and I tell myself,
