Torn Apart Lyrics
I could only be myself, with you around.
Oh, with you around.
And now there's nothing left for me to think about.
Whoa, to think about.
And it hurts like hell,
To be torn apart.
And it hurts like hell,
To be thrown around.
We were born to be together,
Torn apart. Torn apart.
We were born to be together,
Torn apart. Torn apart.
You stepped with a heavy tread and left your mark.
Oh, your mark on me.
The space you used to fill is now this great black hole.
Oh, you're out of sight but not out my mind.
But it hurts like hell,
To be torn apart.
And it hurts like hell,
To be thrown around.
We were born to be together,
Torn apart. Torn apart.
We were born to be together,
Torn apart. Torn apart.
*Ooohs and whoas section*
We were born to be together,
Torn apart. Torn apart.
We were born to be together,
Torn apart. Torn apart.
Oh, with you around.
And now there's nothing left for me to think about.
Whoa, to think about.
To be torn apart.
And it hurts like hell,
To be thrown around.
Torn apart. Torn apart.
We were born to be together,
Torn apart. Torn apart.
Oh, your mark on me.
The space you used to fill is now this great black hole.
Oh, you're out of sight but not out my mind.
To be torn apart.
And it hurts like hell,
To be thrown around.
Torn apart. Torn apart.
We were born to be together,
Torn apart. Torn apart.
Torn apart. Torn apart.
We were born to be together,
Torn apart. Torn apart.

This is the version that is just Bastille, there is a version where just after the last chorus the rapper GRADES has a verse and there are ooohs to fade out. Since this song will be on the Bastille EP VS. (also known as other People's Heartache Pt.III) and that is going to be a purely collaboratory EP in contrast to its two predecessors, which are both solely covers or different versions of their own songs, i expect it will be the rap version that is on the actual EP
Yeah I posted this before Bastille had put up the full version onto Youtube. Which is why it is missing the rap part at the end. And GRADES isn't the rapper at the end, it's LIZZO.

:~D (though actually i've noticed they've already taken back down the rap version so maybe that was just a mistake on their part)

Yeah, I just saw that as well! Very strange. I wonder what happened... Oh well. Both versions sound pretty awesome. :)

Well it's simple, in my opinion, the singer has found the love of his life, maybe his soulmate, but they are not together anymore. That hurts him and he has realized that he can do nothing to change things and their break up was inevitable, like fate, so he says'' we are born to be together, torn apart'' believing that even though they are apart they connect in some way too .
Alright. Let's begin.
Here we have a person with either a friend, boyfriend / girlfriend, anything really. There's no key words in the song indicating that it's any kind of relationship in particular, so I assume it could be about a person and anyone else close to them. I'll use two close friends of the same sex; not a couple.
"I could only be myself, with you around. Oh, with you around. And now there's nothing left for me to think about. Whoa, to think about." In my opinion, I see it as two friends who could be themselves around each other. Then, one friend parts from the other, possibly from an argument. The other is hurt and feels like they can't think without the other person occupying their thoughts.
"And it hurts like hell, To be torn apart. And it hurts like hell, To be thrown around." This part of the song talks about the person feeling hurt that their relationship / friendship had to end, and even though the two may not speak to each other anymore, there's an emotional barrier between them that makes the person feel like they're being emotionally sucker-punched.
"We were born to be together, Torn apart. Torn apart. We were born to be together, Torn apart. Torn apart." Now, the person speaks about how the friend and him / her were supposed to have each other's back, be friends, etc. and that they were torn apart from each other by their foolish argument.
"You stepped with a heavy tread and left your mark. Oh, your mark on me. The space you used to fill is now this great black hole. Oh, you're out of sight but not out my mind." The speaker says that the friend was their everything, and that there isn't one thing that doesn't leave a mark of the friend on it; and even though they barely see each other anymore the speaker says they're not out of his / her mind.
The rest of the song basically is the same lyrics over and over; and that's the end of it.
