Froot Lyrics

V1
I've seen seasons come and go
From winter sun to summer snow
This ain’t my first time at the rodeo

V2
Nature ain’t a fruit machine
She's gotta keep her credits clean
Good things come to those who wait
But I ain’t in a patient phase

INTERLUDE
It's summer time and I hang on a vine
They’re gonna make me into sweet red wine
Hanging around like a fruit on a tree
Waiting to be picked, come on cut me free

PRE
Come on fill your cup up
Looking for some good luck
Good luck, good luck to you
Hanging like a fruit
Ready to be juiced
Juiced, juiced

CHORUS
Living La Dolce Vita
Life couldn't get much sweeter
Don't you give me a reason
That it's not the right season
Babe, I love you a lot
I'll give you all I’ve got
Yeah, you know that it's true
I've been saving all my summers for you
I've been saving all my summers for you
Like Froot, Like Froot

V3
Baby, I am plump and ripe
I'm pinker than shepherd's delight
Sweet like honeysuckle late at night

V4
Leave it too long I'll go rot
Like an apple you forgot
Birds and worms will come for me
The cycle of life is complete

INTERLUDE
I'm your carnal flower, I'm your bloody rose
Pick my petals off and make my heart explode
I'm your deadly nightshade, I’m your cherry tree
You're my one true love, I’m your destiny

PRE
Come on fill your cup up
Looking for some good luck
Good luck, good luck to you
Autumn, I’ll be gone
Birds will sing their mourning song
Song

CHORUS
Living La Dolce Vita
Life couldn't get much sweeter
Don't you give me a reason
That it's not the right season
Babe, I love you a lot
I'll give you all I’ve got
Yeah you know that it's true
I've been saving all my summers for you
I've been saving all my summers for you
Like Froot, Like Froot

M8
Oh my body is ready
Yeah it’s ready, yeah it’s ready for your love
Oh my branches are heavy
Yeah they’re heavy, yeah they’re heavy

CHORUS

Living La Dolce Vita
Life couldn't get much sweeter
Don't you give me a reason
That it's not the right season
Babe, I love you a lot
I'll give you all I’ve got
Yeah you know that it's true
I've been saving all my summers for you
I've been saving all my summers for you
Like Froot, Like Froot

'I've seen seasons come and go From winter sun to summer snow This ain't my first time at the rodeo"

She's saying that she's experienced, this isn't her "first time at the rodeo".

"Nature ain't a fruit machine She's gotta keep her credits clean Good things come to those who wait But I ain't in a patient phase"

She's comparing her relationship to fruit and nature. Both have time limits- fruit can spoil. Good things come to those who wait (for ripening) but she's too eager to care because she is "ready to be juiced" and ripe. I also believe that there may be a bit of biblical allusion to Adam and Eve/the original sin. Less metaphorically, she's ready and eager for a relationship with the guy she's singing to, but she's for some reason no good for him despite her tempting nature.

"Come on fill your cup up Looking for some good luck Good luck, good luck to you Hanging like a fruit Ready to be juiced Juiced, juiced"

Again, she's very willing for the relationship. She's teasing/coaxing him into seeing her (probably despite his better judgement because he knows that she's a bit dangerous).

"Living la dolce vita Life couldn't get much sweeter Don't you give me a reason That it's not the right season Babe, I love you a lot I'll give you all I've got Yeah, you know that it's true I've been saving all my summers for you I've been saving all my summers for you Like froot, like froot"

With him, life is sweet. She doesn't want to hear him give any excuses. She's trying to persuade him by telling him how much she loves him and that she'll "give [him] all that [she has]". She has been saving her summers for him, skipping chances with other guys to be faithful to him. She has eyes only for him.

"Baby, I am plump and ripe I'm pinker than shepherd's delight Sweet like honeysuckle late at night"

She's ready right now. That's what all of these metaphors are saying. There's another link between them: all of these things have short time frames. Fruit will spoil after a certain period, and honeysuckle will lose its scent in the daytime.

"Leave it too long I'll go rot Like an apple you forgot Birds and worms will come for me The cycle of life is complete"

If he doesn't swipe her up right now, she'll rot (grow old). She has eyes only for him, and once she is past her prime she will be courted by less ideal people (birds and worms).

"I'm your carnal flower, I'm your bloody rose Pick my petals off and make my heart explode I'm your deadly nightshade, I'm your cherry tree You're my one true love, I'm your destiny"

She's willing to give everything to him, even if it may destroy her "pick my petals off and make my heart explode". She intimidates him and he sees her in a dangerous light ("I'm your deadly nightshade"). She loves him a lot, but she's not exactly good for him.

"Autumn, I'll be gone Birds will sing their mourning song Song"

She's only here for the summer. Literally.

"Oh my body is ready Yeah it's ready, yeah it's ready (for your love) Oh my branches are heavy Yeah they're heavy, yeah they're heavy"

She has lots of fruit to give. Plus obvious sexual allusions with "my body is ready for your love".

"I'm in love I'm in love"

Self explanatory.

Song Meaning

I think it's pretty much about virginity. She's ready to be deflowered and has waited for too long. Might be because of parents' pressure or whatever, but she is basically feeling really aroused and ready to have sex for the first time. She's eager for it, and demanding a position from the guy she's talking to.

Either that, or just aroused in general. As a feminist, it's also about not caring about what society says about girls: that they should wait for the man to approach them, and can't take the first step. In this song she's defying this social concept by actively telling him that she wants to have it, and she wants now.

My Interpretation

I agree with what people have already said, however I think the song could also be interpreted as her recognising that she is 'ripe' in terms of her career- she is ready for appreciation and popularity. Many fans consider the Froot album to be more 'her', whereas Electra Heart was her exploring the different facets of the feminine identity.

My Interpretation

i think this song is about someone who's finally ready to confess to their lover (hence the reference to being ready or ripe) and how she's trying to tell her lover that this is a one time chance because if she finds out that he doesn't love her back, one day she'll simply forget about him ( leave it too long i'll go rot.) absolutely brilliant song. can't wait for the new Froot album to come out!
