Drugstore Perfume Lyrics

She waits at windows
Her dreams don’t show in color and she sleeps for
now
She just waits around wishing she-

Could leave, single mothers
In parking lots and wear another girl’s evening out
This place let you down easy

She gets up to buy a drink
I’d notice why when she walks by
There’s something caught in her eye, she says

That she can’t change for love
And she explains how long she’s waited for
She wanted more

Dead leaves, desperate summers
All-ages clubs and metal shutter to keep you out

While we hang around factories
‘Till we meet each other
Two discount lives and heavy numbers to keep you

Down

If I wait around, maybe she-

Might come back to say that I’m

Not sure you know my name, that’s fine

But take me with you this time she says
That she can’t change for love
And she explains how long she’s waited for
She wanted more

Gone today
I might just see you around
It hurts, but I understand if you can’t find another
reason not to stay
And while she’s walking away she says

That she can’t change for love
And she explains how long she’s waited for
She wanted more
And as these days go by
Well they can’t change how long we’ve waited for
A love that’s more
A love that’s more

Seeing him live, before he performed this song, he went on about how this song is about "being beautiful. You are beautiful." and "wanting to leave the place you are, hating the place you are at, and escaping."

The other comment seems to very much sum up the song, and a nice meaning it is too. I just want to note the imagery he uses in the lyrics. You can tell this is one of the Britpop influenced songs, well, Pulp influenced anyway. The sparse and mundane description of where the character of the song is reminds me of the whole Kitchen Sink style lyrics Pulp and Suede sometimes use. Even the name 'Drugstore Purfume' reminds me of an American version of British council estate (or something along those lines). Gerard said Hesitant Alien is very much an American Britpop album, this song in particular seems to encapsulate that.

So yeah, a song about escaping your roots/social mobility and finding your dreams, not letting other people shit all over you and believing in yourself. Whoop!

When he sang this live, he said it was a special song, mostly dedicated to Lyn-z. i think this is a song about how she wanted to get away from everything, from reality, and finally getting it. throughout the song, you can catch lines where she hates the place where she is at.

This song reminds me of bulletproof heart. The thoughts of running away from a life you despise is very similar to the running away in that song.

This song is about the person or persons who wouldn’t leave or change who they were to meet Gerard’s definition of love. It’s actually dripping with shade.

I'm not sure about my answer because Gerard Way for what I think can only explain this. For my opinion, this is about the worse jobs specially dedicated for women. The song explains how hard it is to help people who stuck in a job they don't want. They're still people like us, who needs love.
