Yellow Flicker Beat Lyrics

I’m a princess cut from marble, smoother than a storm
And the scars that mark my body, they’re silver and gold
My blood is a flood of rubies, precious stones
It keeps my veins hot, the fires find a home in me
I move through town, I’m quiet like a fight
And my necklace is a rope, I tie it and untie it

And our people talk to me, but nothing ever hits home
People talk to me, and all the voices just burn holes
I’m done with it (ooh)

This is the start of how it all ends
They used to shout my name, now they whisper it
I’m speeding up and this is the
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart
We're at the start, the colors disappear
I never watch the stars, there’s so much down here
So I just try to keep up with the
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart

I dream all year, but they’re not the sweet kinds
And the shivers move down my shoulder blades in double time

And now people talk to me I’m slipping out of reach now
People talk to me, and all their faces blur
But I got my fingers laced together and I made a little prison
And I’m locking up everyone who ever laid a finger on me
I’m done with it (ooh)

This is the start of how it all ends
They used to shout my name, now they whisper it
I’m speeding up and this is the
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart
We're at the start, the colors disappear
I never watch the stars, there’s so much down here
So I just try to keep up with the
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart

And this is the red, orange, yellow flicker beat
Sparking up my heart
And this is the red, orange, yellow flicker beat-beat-beat-beat

It's about an untouchable princess who tries to keep up with her subjects but whenever they talk to her, their voices burn holes through her mind and their faces blur whenever she catches up to them, so they are unreachable.

My Interpretation

I've listened to it many times and I think the line is "I dream of you, but they're not the sweet kinds.", though that doesn't seem to be on any of the lyrics websites. And also "We're at the start" not "We rip the start." The meaning?: Well, this song is obviously about Katniss Everdeen. My specific interpretation? It is about who Katniss has become and specifically, wanting to kill President Snow. That was a major motivation of hers for much of Mockingjay. She previously only killed because she thought she had no choice, now she WANTS to kill someone. "The fire's found a home in me." This is a song about that darkness.

My Interpretation

The first verse is about her external image as the figurehead of the revolution.

The second verse is her feeling of detachment from the revolutionaries who are making use of her.

The third verse on the other hand is her internal anger and how her former fans in the capitol are beginning to fear her.

The fourth verse is her growing trauma.

The fifth verse is about the overthrow of the former rulers.

I think this song is about someone who is viewed as royalty from everyone around her because they worship her. However, she doesn't want to be the star she wants things to be different, so she rebels against them and doesn't listen to anything they say. To me, this song is from Katniss's view in the movie on how everyone looks at her and admires her like royalty. And now that she rebels against her, they see her as a monster because she's different then all of them who are locked in a trance and controlled by Snow. "They used to shout my name, now they whisper it".
