The Octagonal Stairway Lyrics
I hid under cover. Waited for my orders
A clown whispered in my ear, you're not a soldier
I awoke with a grail in my hand
I sipped it as I went down the octagonal stairway
Compassion was my weakness
I declared war for no reason
Then I awakened, brass knuckles on my hands
I punched the walls as I went down the octagonal stairway
I laid in the hearse, saw the southern lights
And I awakened, with a novel in my hand
I read it as I descended the octagonal stairway
A clown whispered in my ear, you're not a soldier
I awoke with a grail in my hand
I sipped it as I went down the octagonal stairway
Compassion was my weakness
I declared war for no reason
Then I awakened, brass knuckles on my hands
I punched the walls as I went down the octagonal stairway
I laid in the hearse, saw the southern lights
And I awakened, with a novel in my hand
I read it as I descended the octagonal stairway

I was curious...I can't think of anything and I tried doing research about this song and nothing. I love the fact that it was a one off for adult swim and I think it was well done! The lyrics seem so minimal and ominous, which is great! It makes the imagination run wild. I was just wondering if anyone could take a guess or what their interpretation of what this song is about. I haven't been able to connect the objects or ideas in the lyrics nor the rational for the repetition of the lyrics... AWESOME SONG!
thanks!
